Job Title - Engineering Higher Apprentice 'Rotations' around the company are provided to give a full overview of different engineering disciplines, as such, daily tasks and interactions differ according to projects you are working on. The key point of this apprenticeship is to grow personally, vocationally and professionally, so tasks you are given will involve these traits at some stage.
Continuation of degree course will evidentially continue to develop the skills needed for the qualifications. More internal training has been provided when needed for projects. An external training course, i2i, has been attended, with more courses on offer in the future years. Both personal and professional skills have been improved as this is a key 'task' in the apprenticeship.
I enjoy most aspects of the programme, the cohort I am part of all get on well and support each other, whilst I am also able to be part of a good colleague team in my current rotation. The company has a very ethical culture that is nice.
My line manager appreciates me as well as my rotation manager. I feel internally recognised, particularly upon receiving a 'reward and recognition' for my work.
The programme is well organised, with development encouraged with well selected rotations and opportunities. There is plentiful, almost too much support from GE, however lacking from GlosCol.
Whilst the general tutoring/lessons is good quality, I feel as though there is too little time for the sessions, and support outside of these is harder to get. I could enjoy the tutoring a lot better as it lacks hands on activities within the sessions, and these are what I fell I learn best from.
The support from the employer is outstanding. Everyone is always wiling to help, even if we have had little or no previous interactions.
The salary is very high, however I personally cannot afford to both move away from home and run my car (although other people are able to do this successfully by sharing accommodation, it is personal preferences that affects this).
We attend, lead and support many company and community events, as well as national events like the Fairford Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT)
Yes
I like how the course is managed and the company I am working for as they have a good 'ethos'. The salary also helps this as it enables me to achieve what I wish and there is a good incentive to pass exams as we receive a pay rise upon completing a year's modules successfully
The biggest piece of advice is to be yourself. Although this is a cliché, it is key to the employer as they actively seek a team who work well together and bond well. My mangers expertise also enables him to have a better understanding of you than you have of yourself
