Manufacturing Engineering - assisting shop floor operators with day-to-day problems that occur during building and helping in any way possible.
Team work, leadership, collaboration, time-keeping, empathy, communication and accountability.
I love the course I am on. Not only do we get a foundation degree with possibilities to complete the top up but we are paid extremely well and are offered a huge range of benefits all because we're part of the GE name. it is a completely unique apprenticeship programme and everyday I look forward to coming into the office and getting stuck into the task that each day will throw at me.
I feel at home. the support the whole site offers for any task or problem is amazing. The experience is unbelievable. If you have a problem and don't know who to go to, someone you know will and will not be afraid to let you know. Everyone is here to help you.
Everything we do is structured. It is all planned and mapped out for us by our coordinators and managers. We are always first in line for tours and experiences that become available and if we don't spot them, one of our peers will. The course is overall brilliantly structure as we have a time-scale in place for when things need to be done e.g. mid-term reviews with line managers, training sheets for any training completed and also to track any mentor meetings we have, these being arranged by the Senior Leadership Team at GE Aviation who always have time for us.
So much support. if we ever have a problem in and out of the workplace the support is there for us. Our manager is a paternalistic leader and has a spare 5 minutes if you need it. He is formal and professional which is exactly what apprentices need being thrown straight into a full time job role in the workplace at such a huge company.
The support we are given from our employer is extremely sympathetic support. As she is the HR lead for the UK she always has an open door if we have problems or need advice. This allows us to get great exposure when speaking to our employer as she is a very senior employee and will not be afraid to introduce us to senior leaders or other significant employees from GE.
Perfectly. Still living at home enables me to save a good amount each month to set me on track to the property ladder. It also enables me live a luxurious life due to the low living costs I have. it sets me in great stead for the future when I look to move out as I have the finance to do so comfortably.
There are lots of opportunities. Representing the company is something that we are pushed to do. It gives us great exposure and allows us to get a view of the outside working world. As apprentices we are expected to volunteer for such events as I did recently with a fellow apprentice. We represented GE Aviation as a whole and attended a Manufacturing Engineering Awards evening by Cotswold Life. This gave us great exposure and a chance to show off the apprenticeship we are part of to let employers know what a great course we are involved in and by such a large, global company.
Yes
Because the future employment prospects are phenomenal. The size of the company and the training we receive puts us in great future employability because we have had the time to develop leadership skills and transfer them into the working environment which enables us to get a strong foothold in the workplace and get the exposure needed to work towards a job after our course. Also the fact our foundation degree is studied around our work placement so we can take theories from our learning and put them into our everyday working life to guide us professionally through our programme and daily job roles.
Make sure that you have an impressive C.V. and have got experiences that have enabled you to go the extra mile and help people out unnecessarily as it prepares you for interview and the daily tasks that will be expected of you in your job role.
