  • 1. Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
  • In this work experience I listened to lectures given by employees of Pinsent Masons, the law firm which I was attached with and the one which I would like to work in the future. We also did some group discussions and activities which were very engaging and thought provoking. We also had a networking lunch on the last day.

  • 2. What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
  • I learnt skills such as teamwork, note taking and listening skills. I wrote notes down of the speakers' thoughts and tips for getting into university and getting a job interview. This was important as I now understand how to get into law even if not doing law at university as a traditional degree.

  • 3. To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
  • I believe this programme was highly engaging and very enjoyable for a virtual online programme. It was also very useful for a student trying to get into law via a less traditional route. I enjoyed socialising with my other peers in group activities and discussions. I enjoyed how organised and smooth it was.

  • 4. How well organised was your work experience?
  • I believe it was very well organised - the tasks and activities on the Forage hub page were easy to access and very simply and well laid out. The majority of the meetings were on time and finished promptly. There were few technical issues when it came to the meetings and the email inbox was well monitored.

  • 6. How much did your work experience help you in deciding on your future career path?
  • My work experience was brilliant and allowed me to realise that although a degree in law may not be best suited for me, the office life of a lawyer is and that I would enjoy it. Before, I had little insight into what it is actually like to be a lawyer but now it is a lot clearer.

  • 7. Were you paid or reimbursed for this experience?
  • I was not paid or reimbursed for this experience though it was completely free of charge. I had to apply for the experience, which took some time, but the application was online meaning I didn't have to send a letter. All in all, other than requiring some time to apply, there were no payments required.

  • There were many opportunities for networking and meeting my peers who have similar mindsets when it comes to pursuing a career in law. • 9b. Why?
  • This law firm is unique in the sense that it has a small firm feel with big firm opportunities. • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pinsent Masons?
  • Apply early! That is key to ensuring you can go over your application several times to ensure it is the best it can be. Do not rush your application; make sure you dedicate a few hours to doing it. Do some other virtual law work experience programmes beforehand so that you can add this to your application.
