  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job was to be a legal support coordinator/ assistant paralegal. On a day to day basis this involved admin tasks such as deeds management, online data room management and printing. Internally I interacted with many lawyers at varying levels and worked within a team of 12 assistant paralegals ranging from other gap years to graduates.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed many skills during my time here such as communication as I am constantly sending emails and talking on the phone. Time management and the ability to prioritize work have also been very necessary in my role and therefore I feel these have developed. Additionally I have improved my teamwork skills as I work within in a large team and understanding how to work with each person in the most effective way has been important!

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I was slightly disappointed with the programme overall as it was very different to what I expected and the experience of various other gap years. However over time and as I have come to know my team etc. I have enjoyed it more. The culture at Pinsent Masons is very welcoming and friendly and this has made it a lot more enjoyable, especially the many opportunities to get involved in charity work.

  • I do feel valued by the firm as I am part of a smart delivery service that has allowed my department to grow and gain more clients therefore we are appreciated. However there was not much chance to be impress and go above and beyond my role as it was largely an admin role.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • The opportunities to get involved in charity work at Pinsents are great! I was able to become a math's mentor in a local deprived school and this was very rewarding. There was also the opportunity to get involved in charity work for children in need and comic relief as well as many social events.

  • 9. Would you recommend Pinsent Masons to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend the firm as I think it is very friendly and a great environment to work in. However I think the gap year placement does not provide equal opportunities to all, even if you try to get more from it.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Pinsent Masons?
  • The application process is well organized and as long as you put time into your application and the research for the interview it should go okay!
