  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work as a HR Advisor, managing sickness across my specialty, managing disciplinary investigations, grievances, bullying & harrassment and all aspects of employee relations. I deal with day to day queries providing advice on maternity, retirements, annual leave, covid restrictions and guidance. I also have involved in influencing policies and procedures for the organisation.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have only just commenced the programme - along with working in a new 'trainee' role and so I am learning new skills regularly...if not on a day to day basis. The programme is allowing me the time to think more clearly and focused about the decisions I make within my role.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am enjoying it a lot - although finding it all being online quite challenging as I miss the interaction aspect of training and classroom sessions. I am hoping they might return following the covid restrictions being lifted. I am learning and developing at work and the programme gives me the chance to research the reasoning.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well organised and structured. Dates are all planned in advance and I know what is expected of me. Tasks are set in a timely manner, although I do struggle with the amount expected of me sometimes whilst still being in a trainee role. It is more of a learning curve for me.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Time aside for study every week (managed by myself) and support in learning my new role which then reflects on evidence and development I can make/ use within my CIPD programme. I feel my direct manager offers plentiful support and advice and I have no doubt any of my team members would step up and support if I needed it.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Pensher View provide me with support by setting regular meetings and tasking me with projects to help me fulfil the apprenticeship qualification which is part of my overall qualification. I feel that they are very supportive and have no doubt they would answer/ help me with any questions I may have. My tutor has offered their advice on any assignments I have submitted

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that my qualification will help me to perform in my role. I am only a few months into my programme but have already seen an impact as I think about my actions and behaviours and research my decision making. It will help me to be a better HR professional without a doubt.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Due to covid we dont have any activities within the organisation at the moment. But usually we have health and wellbeing events, various team activities etc of which I always partake as I am an outgoing/ sociable person. I do partake in social activities outside of the workplace - to assist in a better worklife balance.

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The NHS is an amazing organisation to work for! I am proud to work for the NHS especially within the last year - we couldnt have got through COVID without all of the amazing staff.

  • To be open, honest, hard working and diverse. The NHS is an amazing place to work and can be very rewarding. It can also be very demanding and staff have to be resilient. The NHS offers staff a diverse range of roles, catering for all professions and offers great developmental opportunities.
