  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am currently training to become a deputy manager. Currently my main duties include those of a store assistant, which involves: Checkouts, replenishing stock, stock rotation, etc. Another main duty of mine is making sure customer satisfaction is met and high standards are maintained throughout the store. In addition to this I am undertaking managerial tasks such as ordering stock, counting floats and completing daily checks around the store.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Having previously done managerial roles before I have mainly developed existing skills. These skills include, communication skills, leadership skills and customer service skills. Aldi has helped further my skills as they have pushed me to challenge myself in areas that I am not as confident in, which has helped my success.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am thoroughly enjoying my apprenticeship with Aldi and Lifetime training. I enjoy the regular feedback that I get from parties and the consistent meetings I have with my Lifetime tutor. This helps me stay on track, keep me motivated and helps me develop in areas I am not as confident in. I really enjoy the programme as is allows me to learn whilst on the job.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My apprenticeship is very well organised by both Aldi and Lifetime training. Lifetime training set me tasks and modules to complete every four to six weeks, after this time I will then have a meeting with my tutor to feedback what I have learnt from the modules and how I can use these skills in my career. Aldi help develop my practical skills in the workplace and have given me extra tasks and responsibilities to further my development.

  • Aldi have been brilliant supporters as a whole. My management team in the workplace and my store manager have been really supportive throughout my apprenticeship programme and have also made me feel comfortable to ask for support whenever required. The accessibility to support is flawless as there is always someone around who is willing to help, whether its part of the Aldi team or my lifetime tutor.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I am not generally a big fan of education but this programme has really catered to my needs, and I have found it quite enjoyable, which is surprising. My lifetime tutor is brilliant as nothing is too big of a ask from her and she always makes me feel comfortable to ask any questions, whether i regard them as stupid or not.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Currently due to the pandemic of Covid 19 a lot of social activities have been restricted. However I have been made aware of numerous activities that would occur under normal circumstances, such as football competition, colleague social events, staff meetings and charity events. Once everything is safe to do so I look forward to taking part in these events.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aldi?
  • I found the application process to be brilliant. Aldi where very switched on and responded quickly to every stage throughout the application process. From start to finish it roughly took three to four weeks from when I applied to me starting. They made the application process really simple to follow and provided support early on. This was demonstrated when I couldn't attend my original assessment day and they helped respond quickly and made another day available which I could attend.
