  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • since working with BAM i have developed new and improved people skills, for example dealing with suppliers and other site members. i have also developed better computer skills. another developed existing skill is completing task quickly and to a accurate standard, it used to take me a while to get things done to the expected standard, however i have picked up speed now so i get things done quickly!

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • i enjoy the program i am on, however i do think i need a new tutor. as my course is not specific to my job role in construction i believe it would be useful to have a tutor that can make example links between my role and the questions in my coursework to give me a better understanding of how to do such myself!

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure on my program is okay, however my tutor seems to be on holiday a lot leading to me feeling neglected when i am needing a little guidance. on the other hand the structure on the course is good and i am on track to finish on time next year!

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • i receive little to no support from my line manager including general contact however have received other support from other managers and colleagues on the sites i am on! i do feel like between my current tutor and current line manager i am getting around 50% of the support i should be receiving.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • as previously said in the above question i do not receive enough support. my tutor always seems to be on leave and never has much time for me. nor does she know anything about my job role so can not give me examples necessary for my job role to help me complete my coursework to a good standard!

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • i do not believe my apprenticeship helps my job role at all. the apprenticeship is very generic to "business" and does not help specifically with my job role on site. i do believe without the apprenticeship i would be doing just as well with the business, however due to my lack of good qualification the apprenticeship will give me what i lack in that area!

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • yes there are, there are Christmas do's and regular get togethers, charity events and more however due to covid these did not happen last year. there are training courses that take place each year and competition within the company too, for emample there is currently a running km competition throughout june.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BAM to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • the company is one of the best I've worked with, it is inclusive in all manners and there is such a good mix of people. the company as a whole is very efficient and very organized and completes everything to a very good standard. they are very accommodating and very understanding.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAM?
  • be honest and have a good understanding of the company before you apply. be determined and enthusiastic, it can be very repetitive day to day so apply for a role you really enjoy. however bam will also accommodate if you want to try a different role so don't be afraid mention your other interests within the company!
