Advanced Engineering Technical Apprentice Review

Throughout the course of my apprenticeship, we rotate around numerous different departments within the company. This helps to gain an insight into departmental work whether this is office or workshop based. All the tasks we complete help to gain valuable information into our products.

Since starting my apprenticeship, I have both developed new skills whilst developing on those I had prior knowledge of. With each rotation in our apprenticeship we learn new skills that can be transferred throughout the company over the years.

I thoroughly enjoy my apprenticeship programme. Over the years I have been very fortunate to get involved in a variety of work which has been a great benefit for my learning, helping to get a valuable insight into my line of work and company products.

My apprenticeship programme has a great structure, we spend our first year at college gaining a variety of skills through different subjects. Once the first year is completed we are on-site following a rotation plan which outlines the different departments we will work within.

We receive huge amounts of support. As an apprentice we have monthly reviews which have been tailored to help us present our knowledge and understanding whilst also allowing us to outline any support we need across the apprenticeship programme.

Support is provided from our training provider on a regular basis. I attend college on day release. Within this time frame, we focus on course subjects whilst taking time to go through any outstanding points that need additional clarification. One to one support is available as well.

I feel that my qualification helps to contribute to a better understanding whilst at work. There are subjects that we focus on through college which appear at work and therefore allow us to put our theory into practice and vice versa.

There is a sports and social club that employees are able to enroll into. Over the course of the year there are a variety of "out of work" activities that are advertised for both colleagues and family to get involved with. Activities can range from day trips to concerts etc.

I would recommend Cummins to both friends and family due to the work mission and goals they standby. My colleagues are extremely friendly making for a positive work environment which then leads to an efficient workforce. Overall, Cummins is a great employer and place to work.
