  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • M&G Investment Graduates rotate through 3/4 teams during their graduate scheme in varying areas of the business. This allows for a better understanding of the functions performed across the business and to help you better understand where you are most suited to. In addition, M&G provide the opportunity to take the IMC Certification and CFA Level 1 exams through the Level 6 Apprenticeship program.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have had the opportunity to develop my existing skillset whilst learning an array of new skills that I use in my job on a day-to-day basis. I have learnt important skills surrounding company, fund and credit analysis, in addition to developing my existing presentation, communication and time management skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed the Graduate Scheme so far. The Scheme has given me ample opportunity to help me develop and learn, in addition to providing me a great mix of rotations throughout the business. We are given lots of support including Mentors, Personal Development managers and contacts from the scheme year above.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well structured, with set rotations and plenty of warning of where we will be next placed within the business. We are made aware of all appropriate contacts and have plenty of notice on exam and apprenticeship responsibilities. The HR team are always available for a catch-up and are very supportive.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • As previously mentioned, we have dedicated Mentors, Line Managers, Personal Development Managers and the graduate HR team to support us. In addition to the structured support, the teams I have rotated in have always provided a massive amount of support, and I have always felt like I could go to them with any issues or anything I am struggling with/going through.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • A lot of support is provided from our training provider when working towards our qualifications. The training days are really useful, and the trainers always try to make the sessions as enjoyable and interactive as possible (which can be a hard ask in a virtual environment!). We have had good support in place on the run-up to all our exams.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The Investment Management Certificate has been a useful introduction to the Industry, and it gives a good overview of the different topics that are important to know. Whilst all areas that are studied for may not be directly applicable to my current role, it is good to know for future rotations and for more general industry awareness.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • COVID-19 has made extra-curricular activates difficult. We had activities to get involved with when we first joined to help us get to know and network with each other. There are groups within the business to get involved with, although my exposure to these has been limited given the current circumstances. We are now starting to do more socials externally as a graduate cohort (separately from work) as restrictions ease.

  • 9a. Would you recommend M&G to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • M&G is a great place to work - I actively enjoy my job and I feel valued and respected. Despite the difficulties of starting work in a virtual environment, my colleagues have all been supportive and helpful, and my graduate cohort have been great. M&G have good training in place and have provided plenty of resources to help in our development.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to M&G?
  • My biggest tip would be to be yourself. I'd make sure to be proactive and really show your interest in the business and industry when going through the application process - let your enthusiasm shine through! As a graduate you don't need to know everything from the start and it is much more important to show an interest and a willingness to learn.
