  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a technician, who runs the test cells. You must ensure that he test data is accurate, so you have to conduct regular leak check, ensure that there are no oil leaks that can cause an accident and that all the components and equipment is connect correctly. I do cell maintenance that must be done weekly, monthly and annually. Maintenance jobs can be to change an air filter, oil filter, oil change, fuel filter. In addition, check for leaks or loose connections.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have always been hands on person and interest in cars. I have deepen my knowledge in appropriate connection types for different purposes and sealing techniques. I have learned more about tightening fixings to correct torque and why it is important. Learned about turbochargers and what performance, emissions and efficiency benefits they can have in different applications. I overall improved as engineer and my engineering knowledge.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy coming to work as I am always challenged to improve and become a better technician and person. I have learned importance of the teamwork and I like working with other people. I would happy take on job, that I have never done before, because I feel confident that I will receive support and guidance if I get stuck.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program can be better organized, due to not all the department are fully aware of what apprentice role is and what are the expectation from work and college side of things. Improvements can be made by educating all the managers of the department's that apprentice gets allocated to.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support and I feel very comfortable asking for help or seeking for guidance. I have always been shown the correct method of doing things and shown examples of what can go wrong in the process, as well as how to fix or who to inform in case something goes wrong.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Working with Appris I have received a lot of support and all the questions that I had were answered. I received a good informative feedback about the work that needs to be done to achieve my qualification. I have always felt supported by training provider regards the problems at work.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Training provider supports all apprentices to do better and aim for the highest standard. Being at training provider I have learned the theory side of things that later can be applied practically at my work place. I have better understanding of procedures that are involved in keeping the track of the progress and different processes and why it is important for the business.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Before Covid19 my colleagues used to organize snooker tournaments or football games. It is very social place to work in, everyone is friendly and happy to get to know your colleagues outside working hours and make some friends. It creates family like feeling, especially if you are apprentice as it is everyone responsibility to share the knowledge and ensure that you are safe at all times.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Cummins to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The environment and the micro climate of all the departments is very friendly and helpful. People are happy to help and guide you even if it is somethings that is not work related. You have got an opportunity to shadow people that have spent all their lives in the industry and have a tons of experience, that they can share with you. Cummins made me a better engineer and better person.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cummins?
  • You have to be dedicated and ambitious person in order to work in such a challenging environment. You can learn anything that you want if you will put work in. There are many different roles that you can apply to and the opportunities to progress in your career are here. Show your interest.
