  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As an Investment Graduate I get to rotate around the investments part of the business and build my knowledge and skills within different asset classes. Within each rotation I support my team in analysing potential investments and relevant market trends, working closely with my manager to do so.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Through the combination of the initial induction training, studying for the IMC and CFA Level 1 and learning on the job through the rotations, I have both learnt new skills and developed existing skills. This includes building up investment knowledge, analytical skills and using excel for finance amongst others.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy it ! M&G has a great and open culture which makes it easier to put forward my own views and ask questions where uncertain or curious. The rotational nature is also great, allowing the grads to have a broader experience before specialising into a specific asset class.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Even whilst being online, the programme has been organised very well. I have enjoyed the variety of speakers and training sessions in addition to the rotational structure of the programme.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We receive a lot of personal learning and development support, as well as more pastoral support through our assigned mentors and other points of contact throughout the business. The culture is open which makes it feel easier to voice any concerns or further support needed where applicable.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Significant support. We receive training textbooks as well as direct training sessions with experienced professionals. We are able to ask the training provider specific questions or for general help with topics we are studying.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It is really useful. Finance has a lot of terminology which can be harder to pick up through working in the role. The qualification really helps cement a foundation in investment knowledge and terminology which has really helped accelerate my learning and progress in my role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We often have professional networking events as well as online social activities, particularly amongst the graduate cohort.

    9/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend M&G to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • An excellent place to learn, supported by a relatively flat culture. Great work-life balance. Rotational nature of the scheme gives a unique insight into different parts of the investments business that one might not get to interact with if they had specialised earlier on.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to M&G?
  • Research the asset management industry and M&G. Understand what makes M&G different to its competitors and how your skills could fit in at M&G. Use lots of examples in your interviews.
