1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:


My training involves learning and shadowing all aspects of hairdressing services including, different lengths and style cuts, extensions, hair colouring, finishes using different tools , equipments and products. Also learning the theory side of hair, colours and techniques aswell as maintaing health and safety, COSH, RIDDOR and confidentiality. Shop keeping and customer services is also involved.

2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?


I have never done hairdressing before until i started my training. So far I have learnt how to carry out a wide variety of services including how to cut hair, how to mix and apply chemicals for perming and colours, storing products correctly, use of rollers , creating volume, understanding of why we use certain tools and using PPE. Also on the theory side I have learnt about hair growth, structure, bonds and reactions.

3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?


I really love the overall progression from learning the basics. Evolving and gaining more hands on experience has been a wonderful achievement. As the program is not classroom based it gives me the freedom to learn at my own pace with the help of my tutor guiding me in the right direction.

4. How well organised/structured is your programme?


My program is very structured with room to also be flexible with set deadlines to achieve what I have been shown and instructed to learn before my assessment appointments. I can make suitable appointment dates and times with my tutor on each visit and able to easily cancel for a different date if needed.

5. How much support do you receive from your employer?


I have great support from my tutor. I only have to drop her a message and she will be in touch straight away. It is great that she visits me at home or in a different location if needs be. She is very supportive in my work and provides great explanations to help me overcome any problems I come across. As a whole , realise staff, provide great help, supportive groups, information, guidance and encouragement.

6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?


I recieve as much support as I need. We will go through the process, talk about it and be shown the best ways to carry out the service. My providers allow me as much time as needed to fully practice and shadow before taking my assessments.

7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?


When I carry out a service , having my assessor watch and observe each step i take gives me the confidence of knowing that if I'm doing something wrong she will point it out. Its pointed out by questions such as- what will you create at that angle? - this encourages me to stop and think and then correct myself . These are the things I will remember when I'm doing the same styles , helping me to improve and speed up my process.

8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)


No there isn't. I'm there for training, gaining information and knowledge.

9a. Would you recommend Realise Training to a friend?

Realise training give you the best start, support, encouragement and freedom to successfully grow and evolve into a great hairstylist. They are polite, real and make you very comfortable when carrying out the assessments. You are made to feel welcome from day one and create a wonderful professional friendship.

10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Realise Training?

Don't be nervous or in doubt of your capabilities and just go for it. You will be unbelievably surprised at how much help and support realise team will give you to help achieve your dreams, goals and qualifications.
