  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Dealing with customer queries: Liability discussions, costs of claims, Legal questions in respect of any court documents or why solicitors are dealing. Contacting third party representatives via various methods of communication such as phone, email or letter in order to obtain further information. Ensuring all parties are kept updated throughout any ongoing claim.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Learnt some new skills with ongoing training throughout on a regular basis to ensure all members of staff are competent in their respective roles. Have been upskilled to cover most areas within my area of business and further training is in the works. System access has also been increased recently for all members to the majority of systems.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme itself is enjoyable with a enough support and resources in place to assist you on your journey. There is always a member of the support team or your coach to contact should you need any additional support. Alternative you can discuss any concerns around time or work with the company to see if anything can be done.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well structed and organised as a whole from the apprentice side without any problems. However from the company (workplace) point of view more hours could be dedicated to meet the 20% off the job learning, unfortunately this falls to about 10% rather than the recommended amount required.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • From my employer I receive less support than I would have expected. As noted earlier then allocated time is 3 hours per week on a 35 hour week. This does not add up to the recommended 20% off the job learning, this is just short of the 10% mark. Therefore it is difficult to deal with the work and you are forced to use up more of your own personal time in order to catch up.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider is brilliant with a number of monthly workshops currently held online allowing numerous people on the programme to discuss specific topics within the workshop. Furthermore a dedicated coach will go over key topics with everyone and encourage further engagement as a whole. All materials are then shared for further review and any questions answered quickly.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualifications make me feel more competent within my role, further enhancing and improving on existing skills. But this also adds new information and skills which can then be put into practice when working real life claims within my role. The qualification also helps in understanding different areas of the insurance market to help understand how these roles fit in with my own role on a greater scale.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are some extra-curricular activities to get involved in such as a social group - this involves various activities for members such as football, club meetings or interactive events). This had changed during the pandemic to events such as 'name the famous person' or other types of activities to keep people engaged with one another - this generally prompted team work rather than individual to keep engagement high

  • 9a. Would you recommend RSA Insurance Ltd to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • RSA itself is a good place to work, the hours are good in general (weekly). There is shift work depending on what department you work in which would include weekends however. The pay itself is ok but there is pay increases every 6 months for low earners, the pension scheme at RSA however is very good and is certainly the best I have personally come across. Holidays are pretty easy to book also.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to RSA Insurance Ltd?
  • Just be yourself when attending any interview and speak about your experiences. They want to make sure you are approachable and easy to speak with (considering you will be talking over the phone most of the time). Remember to ask any questions about anything if you are not sure as this shows you are eager or just want to enquire more about something in general (shows you are interested).
