  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Telecoms engineer providing fibre to the premises installations and fault finding to customers out in the field. Involves safe working practices and overcoming issues to be able to provide customers with the fastest internet connections in the country.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, lots of new skills, fibre splicing, climbing skills, overcoming issues and processes, thinking outside the box on a solution to a problem.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Its been great so far, all of the trainers have been really helpful, great training program, and fully in depth as much detail as the individual could want, be it basic info or more in depth technical detail.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Its been very well structured so far, full training program laid out before starting and I know where im going at each point.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • As much as is needed. The support is there from the team I work with, the trainers were on hand to offer as much advice as needed.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Enough as required, all of the training days were set out as soon as I joined, and its very clear as and when I will be training for my qualification.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think learning on the job is one of the best ways to learn a new skill. "Talk to me, and i'll forget, Show me and I might take a bit in, Involve me and i'll learn"

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There seems to be the opportunity for this, obviously Covid has put a stop to most in person social activities but we have internal social media which helps share with the team.

  • Yes

  • Great company to work for, looked after me from day 1 and making sure I am performing to my best


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT?
  • Go for it, it may be a long process to join and one that can take years, but there is a reason so many people are applying!
