  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My current role is in the Data Operations where I am in charge of monitoring the cloud platform in trying to optimise the system by conducting various checks and identifying any errors or failed models, pipelines and data products. Then I would create tickets with information of what the errors were about to discuss with the management the prioritisation and assigning the task to a relevant data engineer or data scientist.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt multiple skills that is relevant to my role as my manager made sure that I get to experience various roles and responsibilities in my department to ensure that I would know what I would like to progress in my career from Data Engineer, Data Scientist and Data Analyst tasks or working alongside fellow colleagues. My skills that I developed involves programming languages such as SQL and working in an Agile Environment.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • My programme structure with QA was very unenjoyable and I didn't get much help for my portfolio, project and interviews. This was because my tutors kept leaving after a few months and the new tutors couldn't provide me with relevant help as they are still new to the job.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme structure were very disorganised half of the classrooms I had in QA the tutor had a tough time teaching us with the materials they had. In addition I didn't get much help regarding my interview or projects which made it very difficult for me to understand what I needed to prepare and what I need to do in the interview, project etc.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have receive full support from my Manager and my department which they provide me with any tasks I need for my apprenticeship such as Data analysation tasks, Data engineering tasks and working alongside Data Scientists. In addition they also provided me with resources and time if I needed it.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have received support however I have felt that they were still lacking as it was tough to get hold of my Tutors and it would take a few days or weeks until they replied. In addition the feedback received and instructions were very unclear which made me have to rewrite my portfolio multiple times due to it.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The programme itself has helped me understand more about my role and the general materials given to me gave me the basic technical knowledge about my day to day task I do at work. This makes my job much easier as I can understand my tasks if the knowledge I learnt is applicable.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are plenty of activities in Vodafone that people can participate in. In addition before covid in my office there were after work hours socialisation to get to know everyone in the business. There is also workplace a social media platform for Vodafone employees for us to be able to communicate and understand what is happening in the business.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I have received plenty of support from my colleagues and what I learnt in my job helps me a lot in my career as I have developed and improved numerous necessary skills such as technical skills and services/tools like SQL, AWS, Teradata to soft skills such as presentations and working in an agile environment.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Vodafone?
  • Be yourself and research about the role you're applying to and making sure that you understand what it is about. In addition would be preparing your CV according to the role you're applying and with details of why you're the best candidate for the role. Lastly ensure that you have also did preparation on answering any questions that might be asked in the interview.
