  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • In my current role, I am given responsibility for managing the activities of the yearly annual accounting cycle and producing statutory accounts for my specific entities. This involves liaising with external auditors and also service providers of the company. On top of this, I also have to complete month end reporting and have involvement with projects.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My accounting and technical knowledge has really improved, as when I joined the business straight out of 6th Form, I had no prior knowledge. This had developed from on the job training and also my professional qualification. I feel that the main skills I have developed through work experience are Communication and teamwork, as they are heavily relied on in the workplace.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my programme, as it has given me the opportunity to move around the business and work in a variety of functions in such a short amount of time. To be in my 3rd role in 4 years, all in different functions of finance, it's helped me to improve my breadth of knowledge of the business. In addition, the culture of the organisation is a perfect fit for me.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I am able to take 20% of my time as study, so with this comes flexibility. When I am in the process of studying a module with live classroom courses, my manager's have always been very supportive in allowing me the chance to attend the courses. In addition, I am also provided the support and time off for exams. The modules are provided via an on-demand basis so the structure can be worked around the peak times of workload.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • More than I ever imagined. On joining the business, I was provided with several support contacts. This included my Line manager, a mentor, a buddy (someone of similar age and experience) and also early career's leads. Having all of these definitely made me feel supported and gave me the chance to fully focus on my work and studies.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive lots of support from BPP. When studying the courses, you are provided constant support from tutors throughout, whether this be follow up emails, posts on forums, or even just a chat on how you are feeling about the topics. On top of this, there is also a performance support team who reach out to see if there are any issues affecting your study with the aim of correcting them.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification I have been studying has definitely helped me at work, with different modules helping in different areas. The topics you learn about are very focused so you can directly link them to the work environment, whether it be a core accounting module, or whether it's a module on costing methods and managing styles.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, I am encouraged to get involved in as many things as possible. I am part of 2 different engagement teams which have the focus on driving involvement of teams and ensuring that people take time to enjoy the social side of work. In addition to this, there are also ways to get involved in sports, usually outside of work, but it's easy enough to find people with the same interests.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Mondelez to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Mondelez has been a great business for me due to the global presence and opportunities that arise from that. I always wanted to join a large business so there would be no 'ceiling' to hit and there would always be a new opportunity waiting, and Mondelez have definitely provided these opportunities to me. In addition, it has also been great to be part of a business that brings such iconic brands to the market.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mondelez?
  • To always be themselves. The business is happier to see diversity and people working in the ways that work for them, as opposed to a generic , standard process for all. I would also advise to get as much experience as you can, take roles which are offered even if it's not exactly the role you were planning to go for, as there is so much to learn in each area of the business. Don't be scared by the lengthy application process of early career schemes and multiple rounds, as you'll soon learn this is standard across all businesses.
