  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is to act as an Administrator, providing support to a team of around 30 people locally, with tasks such as meeting coordination and management, financial processes like purchase orders, invoicing and expenses, and also providing support to ongoing projects. The local team is part of a global team that work closely together, and I often am coordinating global meetings too. My role is flexible and no two days are the same.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My skillset has definitely massively increased over my time at Roche so far. A big factor that I have developed is time management. I've also completed internal courses on Data Protection, Growth Mindset, Emotional Intelligence, Resilience plus more. I recently completed an Agile Team Facilitation course (external). My interpersonal skills have definitely improved and above all else, my role has improved my confidence.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I absolutely love my role, I am incredibly lucky to be where I am today. Roche fosters a fantastic work environment, where employees are self-empowered to follow their passions and make their own decisions. Development is a huge focus in the culture of Roche, which has meant I have been been able to develop in many areas throughout my time.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The Roche programme has been well organised. I completed the company induction right at the beginning and also attended addtional departmental overviews run for students. I was paired with a mentor from day 1 who has been a fantastic support the whole way through. Even with the pandemic, my work has been massively varied and I have been able to experience lots throughout my time.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I regularly meet with my manager and my mentor (separately) and reach out to them in between if I need anything additional. The wider team are also a fabulous support and continually offer help if / when I need it (cover for annual leave or periods of heavy workload). Everyone who I have encountered has been happy to help with anything and everything!

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider has been good throughout the pandemic. Despite a huge shift in the way they operate, the process of beginning the programme was smooth and my tutors have been accessible throughout the whole programme. They've answered any questions I have quickly and efficiently and always offer up more support if needed. They could maybe know more about the companies we work in just to help with context setting in terms of assignments etc. I have enjoyed the qualification very much.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I truly believe that the qualification has provided me with a completely different perspective to the business. The studying portion of my programme has meant that I have had to have a holistic view of the business and constantly thinking of the bigger picture. For this reason, I do feel I have learnt more in the last year about the company than I would have without the qualification

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes. The pandemic has made this difficult, but there have been some events like Coffee Lottery networking events, volunteering occasions, charity events, sports games etc. It's a shame that COVID has massively limited these which means I have not experienced most of them first hand!

  • 9a. Would you recommend Roche to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Roche is an all round fantastic company to work for. It's truly clear from day one that they really care about their staff and invest into their employees, through trainings and development and just the environment / culture of the company.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Roche?
  • Be yourself! I would also say, know your passions and show them. Be open minded and have a drive to learn and develop. Hopefully, you are a team player, demonstrate this through any interviews / assessment days! And last of all, try to say yes to new opportunities that come up - you can only grow from them!
