  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • So far I have learnt about managing and leading people, specifically understanding organisational behaviour and how that impacts all members of the team and how that can be altered to achieve better operational results. I have learnt about operations management and what steps need to be considered when implementing changes/improvements to operations

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy learning new things that I can use in my day job, learning new theories and understanding why things happen/ how to change them and then applying that to my situation at work. The course is all virtual so far and this has caused issues with the delivery as sometimes the connection/WiFi/atmosphere is lacking

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme delivered by MMU is very organised and structured. The timetable is up in advance and give clear information on what will be the topic at each session. There is only one module at once which is good so you don’t get overwhelmed by different topics at once.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer has provided me with resources to complete the programme such as a laptop but there is an area for improvement in the amount of support given through time at work. The 20% target is difficult to meet as I run a busy restaurant and the isn’t a quiet space to take the classes in. The sessions are usually Friday 10-1pm which is quite an inconvenient time for the business and as a result I am often off the lecture and straight back onto the shop floor not given much time to really absorb the information I’ve learnt

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • There is a lot of support from the university through the tutors and the study skills personnel. I have a skills coach who is very supportive and helpful. The tutors reply quickly to emails and give full explanations about what is expected through the assignment and in the module via email and 1-2-1 teams meetings.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The skills and theory I have learnt so far have already helped me in the job I am in. There are other modules that will also add understanding and theory to the role I am currently doing, allowing me to understand it more fully and giving me the understanding and knowledge to progress and develop further

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are no extra activities available at work, this could be due to the current situation with the pandemic. A sports group would be good as the industry of fast food is given stigma around being junk food, a health club for its staff could help to reduce this in house

  • 9a. Would you recommend McDonald's to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend this to friend as it is flexible and does provide good perks such as employee discounts, the ability to develop and grown. The promotions are based on ability and not qualifications you hold which are good so everyone has a level plane to promotions within the restaurant

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to McDonald's?
  • I would advise that you have to be able to work in a team, communicate well and have a positive mind set. Although it is a busy environment it is fun to work there, there are lots of opportunities to make a career out of it as many use it as a stepping stone whilst studying
