  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am currently working on a project known as the A417 the Missing Link- which is a major highways project. My roles include- project coordination, document control, updating the organograms, assisting the Project Managers, Minuting meetings, Creating trackers and spreadsheets, Creating project plans, Analysing project programmes

  • Excel skills, report writing skills, QA skills, Tech skills, Communication skills, Project Management qualifications

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy it. It has been strange starting from home and not experiencing office life but my team are great and I am enjoying the project I am working on. I am keen to assist in more infrastructure projects in the future.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My work life is very organised and I always know what I am doing. However, my university is not so well organised. The programme isn't run too well and there can be a lot of confusion around what we are doing / poor organisation.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my employer. My line manager and the whole Arup team help me wherever I need and I know I could ask them anything. They help with my uni assignments and give me as much training as I need.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My course has been very up and down in terms of teaching standard. There have been quite a few issues surrounding poor organisation / unrealistic deadlines / large amounts of teaching ourselves however the course leader is always responsive and when we share our problems they help as much as they can.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I do believe I have learned a lot at University which has helped me with my working life.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, Arup are very keen in encouraging a good work life balance so there a lot of social events and networking events to get us involved as much s possible with our team. They host trips, nights out, sporting events, parties etc for us which I find great for team collaboration.

  • Yes

  • They are a fantastic employer with endless benefits. They are a great company to get in with and are so keen on development so will push you to your full potential. The company is great.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Arup?
  • Be confident!! I definitely believe that Arup only hire a certain type of person- someone who is confident, willing to learn, interested in the industry and willing to make connections- overall a good team player. Everyone in the company is like this and I have not come across anyone so far that has been anything but these characteristics. You definitely have to do your research into the company before applying and make sure you know everything about the company because the interviews are hard!
