  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role at the end of this apprenticeship will be customer service engineers. At this moment I am in a training centre and at college in first year. I go out to shadow engineer when possible, which gives a good insight for what to expect once qualified.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a range of skills already from being in the training centre with activities like milling, turning, hand fitting, wiring and installation and so on. Also from being on site with engineers learning how to problem solve and the different technologies we are dealing with when at work.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • At the moment I am thoroughly enjoying the programme. Learning new skills and meeting new people in the training centre, colleagues in work who i will work with in the future. Every one is very supportive and helpful if there was any problems I could let someone know and my words would be heard.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Due to the current situation with covid our programme has been changed from 4 days in training centre to 1 day in college to a mixture of shadowing engineers college and training centre. It has been handled very well and I believe now being able to get a taste for the job, out with engineers has been a great opportunity for us.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There have been no issues with getting any support from anyone at Siemens, managers and coordinators, and also engineers are all very helpful and eager to talk with monthly check-ins and reviews. Overall a very positive attitude towards supporting the apprentices and have nothing to complain about everything well set out.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • When we are in the training centre the training officers are good and are there to help at any time with our level 2 practical tasks and activities. College work is more independent although we hold 6 weekly reviews which goes over everything from training centre to college and in between - had no issues as of yet but I'm sure if there was any then they would be able to support me.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Through the training centre we have learnt a range of practical and hands on skills and also developed our knowledge on different aspects. This i believe will definitely help us perform better in our role as we can transfer these skills into our real life work in the coming months/years

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • At the moment in the current world climate we have not had the chance to take part in any in-person activities. There has been a number of forums which we have taken part in online which involve members of the company which had some social aspects to it, we were able to chat with past apprentices

  • 9a. Would you recommend Siemens Healthineers to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • So far this has felt like a great decision to accept the job offer to work for this company. Cannot fault it and am enjoying myself as i progress through the first year. If someone offered this opportunity then I believe it would be silly to pass on it f

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Siemens Healthineers?
  • There are a number of assessments, quizzes, tasks to complete for the interviews. You have to demonstrate what type of person you are through these different things. Everyone at the interview was very welcoming and kind and it was nothing to get worked up about if you were to be yourself.
