  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I prepare and produce meals to meet the reene king brand standard and provide quality service to a wide range of customers at the charnwood arms in coalville leicestershire, my role involves, preppig food, cooking a range of different meals and maintaining a clean and safe encironment in the kitchen.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • yes I have learned a wide range of skills since starting my role as a chef for greene king, I learned different methods of cooking which I can use on a day to day basis and I learned all about stock rotation and how to store food correctly as well as keeping it fresh.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I dis find it hard at first and it was a struggle for me to get into but I tend to excel toward the end of my apprenticeship as I come out of my shell and realise all of my training and experience comes into play naturally, overall it was a great experience.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • it has been difficult to maintain a structure due to Covid-19, however my trainer is very dilligent when it comes to meetings and appointments and he is really consistent when it comes to our sessions! all in all if the time you are given is used correctly it makes for a smooth experience.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • quite alot of suppirt as my General Manager is really proud of my achievements through Lifetime and she encourages me to complete them aswell as boosting my confidence and reminding me that I have what it takes to make it over the final hurdle and ultimately succeed at the program.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • 100% a great amount of support, my trainer is always there at the other end of the phone if needed, with any help and guidance to help me through my course and again to remind me of what knowledge I already hold as and when I need to be refreshed.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that it helps me perform alot better as using the knowledge I have gained from my qualifications I understand alot more about the ins and outs of the company and the importance of my job role, because of this I put alot more effort into what I do and alot of passion too.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • not really currently because of the situation of course (covid - 19) however there are alot of charity events that take place aswell as the fact that If i remember correctly greene king holds a football league for their pubs to get teams involved in which is something me and some of my team would definitely be interested in.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Greene King to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would definitely recommend greene king to a friend not just to go out for a meal etc but also to work for as a company because when you start off at your site you quickly end up becoming more like a family and everybody works well as a team and has eachother backs through the toughest of times and its wonderful.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Greene King?
  • Do not be afraid to be yourself, no matter what your ethnicity, gender or even disability, greene king team members all across the UK take all diversity into account and treat everybody everybody equally, there is alot of banter in the kitchens and behind the bar and the morale is always high, at greene king you arent just employees you are family.
