  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am an Apprentice vehicle technician working at Bognor Motors. I spend one day a week at college doing assignment work and studying in detail then I spend the rest of my week at the garage learning hands on. I shadow someone at my work, helping them with their various jobs and often have my own jobs like servicing and tyres. As well as these jobs, I am keeping the workshop area safe and tidy.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt lots of new skills, I am learning how to use different tools, I am learning all about vehicles and how they work. Whilst learning these, I am also finding my own way to do things that I find make my work easier and more efficient. I have developed some existing skills like being a team player and strong communication.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am enjoying my programme a lot, everyday is different which is great and everyday I learn something new. There have been some stressful days where mistakes have been made and there have been some challenges but it is all about learning and getting better each day. It has exceeded my expectations, especially being a woman working in a more male environment, my team have welcomed me in and seem to love having me around.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I have found the programme fairly organised so far. The COVID situation was handled well, we were sent our work each week and it was made clear what we had to do. If anything has changed or is happening differently we are made aware well in advance. There is also plenty of support which can be accessed easily.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My mentor at work has been great from the start, very clear when teaching and easy to get along with. The support from work is ok. I feel comfortable in my workplace and feel welcomed as a female apprentice. I am confident if I have any problems they will be sorted.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I definitely feel as though I have learnt a lot in my time here already, and that after I have had my day at college, I find it so interesting looking out for those things during my next day at work. I have definitely put the theory I have learnt into practice.

  • No

  • 9a. Would you recommend Chichester College to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Access to resources and support where you need it and regular check ups to check your progress. The learning has always been clear and interesting in both the courses I have done here, Graphics in 2016 and Mechanics now. There is plenty of refreshments also if you are stuck for lunch and the parking is cheap.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Chichester College?
  • Great place to learn, the application process is simple and easy and you will have a trial day so you can get a feel for your chosen course and make sure it's for you.
