  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role includes forecasting our digital marketing spends, using models to predict bookings and visits driven from our online digital marketing channels and also I look after our econometrics modelling, gaining a holistic view of how all of our marketing activity is driving bookings. The role includes building relationships with stakeholders from across all of digital marketing and the wider marketing team. I also mentor one of our employees on the graduate scheme.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My degree has shown me how to apply a number of machine learning models, analytical techniques and even improved my competency coding so I am able to process large datasets efficiently. Inside work I am continuously developing skills such as presenting to a variety of stakeholders, negotiation skills, mentoring skills, etc. I've also completed the yellow belt in the six sigma course.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The program as a whole has been insightful and has pushed me to develop my technical skills further than I ever imagined. Having the course take place for a year without covid and a year with covid has been a learning curve and a difficult adjustment but the team have been supportive and flexible with constantly adapting the online resources to help us as much as possible.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It's well structured with the three days of lectures a month and there are teams chats set up for support on coursework, etc. The only difficulty comes when you're doing two modules at the same time with close deadlines and as you're doing the course alongside working, it's a lot to juggle. Again, the Exeter team have been brilliant and once raised they have managed to adjust deadlines to help us with this.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer gives me as much support as I request. They're flexible with the 20% off the job study days so I take them when I need them most (towards the end of term as opposed to the start), they have a dedicated resource within the business which specialises in data science in case we need technical help, and your manager is involved throughout so they're aware of your workload from work and uni to help with that.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We have academic tutors who meet with us once every 3 months and gathers feedback which is great, but they're also there if we have any questions and ensure us we can email them at any time. Lecturers also make it clear they're happy for us to email them when we want to provide guidance

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I have definitely taken the skills learnt and applied them to my day to day workings, whether it's implementing a new data driven model which performs better than the one I used before or simply using my advanced coding skills to make code more efficient. I also think the report element of coursework's have helped with some of the project reports I've written up and I've included elements I've used in coursework's to make my work reports more technical and robust

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Before covid, there was the choir, running club, etc. and lots of work socials for the team to go to if they wanted to, especially to celebrate milestones or to have a team goals day out of the office. They also offer one day a year which we get paid for that we can undergo some charity work, so one year we helped paint a homeless shelter, we helped paint a dog kennel (and walked the dogs!) and we also have helped paint a school. It's a brilliant incentive. Through covid, we still try and keep up the online socials, movie nights, games, etc.
