  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am totally responsible for delivering the project I am currently working on. this involves managing a team comprising 2 Surveyors and 3 Site Managers. My day to day role involves liaising with the Client, external stakeholders and ensuring health & safety is adhered to on site. Additionally my role involves monitoring the contract programme to ensure we complete on time, within budget and good quality.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes! I have learned how to use 'reflective practice' to solve issue(s) and how to manage client expectation. I have developed my inter-personal skills on how to manage my time, by switching off at the right time and learn how to say no to time wasters who tends to disrupt my planned day.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Wow! I must say I enjoy talking to Fleur more than anything else. I have learned a lot since we started by researching the subject of the respective unit, for example: Mission & Vision Statements of my company and other companies. I wouldn't have taken note of these as they weren't important in my view. However, this has now let me take note.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very organised/structured, I have enough time to research and complete my assignments, I am in constant contact with Fleur when I need support. The programme also suits my current role and my career aspiration. Additionally, the programme is structured so I can 'juggle' work & life balance and not affecting my studies.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • United Living supports me to the extent where I am given days off work to write my assignment. they also supports me by empowering me to demonstrate/execute what I have learned from the programme. I have recently been given another site manager to take the pressure off me so I can concentrate more on managing the programme and time to do my assignments.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • 100% Fleur Kent has been so supportive, at times I feel a-shame to contact her for support, however, she always says ''Devon its my job'' I cannot for the life of me deny the fact CMI has been very supportive since we started the programme, and I am confident they will continue to do so.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • 100% I think I may have answered this previously, however, yes.. I have learned a lot since I started my apprenticeship and I have applied this to my day-to-day activities. one main thing I now do is Time Management... I really didn't know how to switch off, and now i apply this at least once a week. Additionally, I also apply reflective practice.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • No...not on the job I am currently working on. however, I support the Prostate Cancer Research Centre Charity and I normally promote a 5 miles Charity walk in aid of the charity every project I have managed in the past 5 years. Additionally I set up a games area on site as part of my Considerate Constructors Scheme Champion, this involves a dart board, dominoes, table tennis etc.

  • 9a. Would you recommend United Living Group to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Simply the best company I have ever worked for, hence I am still working for them for 9 years in January 2022. Speaking for myself, when I joined I was just a trainee site manager and I have been promoted through the 'ranks' up to my current role and they have now paid for me to do my apprenticeship to aid my career aspiration.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to United Living Group?
  • The application process is firstly checking on the website for current vacancy, the interview process is you are firstly interviewed by the head of the department, then you are then moved on to the HR Department. If you are successful, we then have an induction day at the head office, before you are taken/sent to the respective site you applied for.
