  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis I supervise a team who deal with WFM Scheduling and Real Time monitoring. I also Forecast demand and produce resource plans to ensure the business has the right resource to be able to service their customers. I also do ad-hoc analytical work to identify areas to improve. My apprenticeship bolts onto my role and supports me to do more in my current work, by enhancing my skills.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • So far I've learnt a lot about SQL, and really got to grips with the basics of that. I've also learnt more about Power BI which was really interesting, as it's really relevant for the business I work in. Next up is learning about Python which will be fascinating. It's great to have some professional support to bolster my existing knowledge and fill out and gaps.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I'm really enjoying it so far. I've been able to balance it and my core role, and it has complimented it well. All the things I've learnt so far have enabled me to deliver more for my stakeholders at work which is what it should do. I feel like I'm a more capable person after doing this so far.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well structured. I can see pretty much the entire plan for the whole apprenticeship. There are no surprises coming up which enables me to work through it methodically. The System they have, BUD, is easy to use and access and submit my work. The week long courses that I have been on are also well structured, however I think they do suffer a little bit all being virtual, however that's a consequence of the global pandemic, and not necessarily should reflect poorly on them.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I can't grumble at all re: this. I'm given adequate time to do my apprenticeship work and they are fully behind me doing this, including helping me sign up in the first place. They also help me with opportunities if I need to go outside my role a little bit to get the experience I need for the course.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Plenty. Regular catch ups, support available on request. Constructive feedback on the back of submissions to let me know what is good and what need's some work. I'm really pleased so far. It's been really straightforward, and the experts on the week long courses really know their stuff and are able to answer any questions. Cloudacademy which delivers web based training modules is also really easy to use.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Very well. I'm learning things that are relevant to my role and enhance my skill. I am doing a Level 4 Data Analyst apprenticeship and learning SQL and Python and Power BI all enhances what I can do currently. This enables me to more efficiently work with data and with a greater deal of complexity.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • During the pandemic it has been restricted, however prior to that I have completed in 5 a side football tournaments, and the christmas parties are outstanding. There's plenty of networking opportunities with talent pools putting together networking events, including reverse mentoring sessions. There's always plenty of opportunities to meet other people.

  • 9a. Would you recommend E.ON to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Salaries are very competitive and there are always opportunities to do more and better yourself if you are willing to put in the work and do so. I have secured two significant promotions in 6 years, as a result of working hard and developing myself with the support of my managers over the years.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to E.ON?
  • Spend some time understanding the energy industry. What are the current global/UK trends? There's a big push to grow energy usage from renewable sources and move away from carbon. Understanding this will help you know in which direction the company is going and make you better placed to join in and help.
