  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work the same job role as my colleagues in store serving customers to book their holiday, change or cancel their holidays, travel money exchange and any queries they have. We also work together to keep the store clean and tidy to keep ourselves and customers safe. As I am an apprentice I also have time off the counter the complete any work my assessor has set for me to get me ready for my End Point Review.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My apprenticeship has helped expand my knowledge on the Travel and Tourism industry and geography. This is a big part of my job role and has helped me to become a better seller and travel consultant as I can advise my customers about anything they need to know and help them find their perfect holiday.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Although my apprenticeship has gone on longer than expected due to Covid I have enjoyed the program and Covid has been a huge learning curve which has had me adapt to work in different ways I would never of thought of. I look forward to completing my apprenticeship so I can work on improving in my job role however it has expanded knowledge on the travel and tourism industry which I would never have had if I was a normal trainee.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My apprenticeship had been well organised and structured into different stages called My Journeys, you work through these one at a time which helps to track your progress and means you don't miss anything. Although Covid put a hold on my apprenticeship for several months TUI have worked hard to get me back on track and ready for my end point assessment.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My colleagues in store are very supportive with helping me with any work I have and giving me the time off the counter to complete my work. Some of the work given to me has to be done by my colleagues, for example witness testimony's so they can write about how they think I am doing and to acknowledge I am doing the work I say I am, my manager and co workers are more than happy to help with these and any other help I ask for with my work.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I also receive support from my assessor who assigns me any work I need to complete to get the evidence I need for my portfolio. This makes the apprenticeship as stress free as possible which I am grateful for as we are working along side our apprenticeship work. I have monthly catch up calls now with my assessor however before Covid we also had shop visits every couple months to check over my progress and check I am comfortable in my store.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think that the qualification has expanded my knowledge so much more on the travel and tourism industry with everything that I wouldn't necessarily learn being a normal trainee and a lot of my colleagues who have worked in the industry a long time don't know about. This has made me a valuable member of my team and I look forward to completing my apprenticeship and focusing on being the best travel consultant I can be. My apprenticeship has taught to everything I need to know about customer service, sustainability within our work, cultures and destinations, working safely and within policy guidlines, etc.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Whilst being in TUI I have been able to do cruise ship visits to see some amazing ships such as Royal Caribbean and Celebrity, Christmas parties with my store colleagues, apprentice conferences to meet other apprentices like myself, working in different shops an meeting other teams, etc. There are also lots of different opportunities such as educational trips to various destinations.

  • 9a. Would you recommend TUI UK & Ireland to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I love working for TUI as I think they are very staff focused as well as customer focused and work hard to support their employees the best they can. I have enjoyed my time working for TUI so far although the challenging times have made I a different job all together we work hard as a team to support one another. I look forward to what the future brings and developing within my job role at TUI.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to TUI UK & Ireland?
  • For those applying for TUI I would definitely recommend doing the apprenticeship program as it a great qualification to have and it helps to make you as knowledgeable as possible for the job. With doing the qualification as part of the job role there is a lot less pressure as you are learning on the job as you go through the apprenticeship.
