  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is part of a Group function looking after colleagues based in UK and Ireland. I work with senior stakeholders to help ensure colleagues enjoy working for TUI, are engaged and kept informed. This involves creating emails, articles for our intranet site, organising meetings and briefings, attending team meetings and working with the Board in Town Halls.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt so many skills since starting at TUI, the main one being team work and working in a corporate environment. Prior to working at TUI, I'd never worked in for a corporate organisation so it was overwhelming at first. However, I'm now comfortable working with senior stakeholders from varying parts of the business.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my 'day job', working with my team as a colleague and meeting lots of different people from around the business. I feel lucky to have the opportunity to do my job whilst still learning and gaining a qualification. I don't particularly enjoy the programme but I feel it is giving me the knowledge for any future career in a business environment.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel that my manager and close team are really supportive and helpful to me taking part in an apprenticeship. They're flexible and allow me to choose how I work best in order to complete the qualification. However, the actual apprenticeship isn't structured very well. We've changed systems and assessors multiple times which disrupts the learning experience. I have monthly meetings with my assessor who allocates and marks work but there isn't a teaching element. The work has to be done pretty much entirely independently using google as a tool. There are some resources but they don't tend to be explained.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My team are great at supporting me as I complete my programme. They allow me to work independently but offer support and advice when I need it. My manager is really involved and helps me to get involved in opportunities that will help me complete some of my tasks for my apprenticeship and always wants to be kept up-to-date.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have monthly meetings with my assessor who sets me tasks to complete and some resources/worksheets that go alongside them. I don't find these too helpful and rely a lot on google to help me complete the tasks. There is a lot of independent study and not a lot of teaching.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel the programme has gone on for too long so the tasks seem irrelevant now to my day job. I know that the business knowledge I have and have learnt through the apprenticeship will help me in the future no matter what I go on to do or what industry I work in.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, there are lots of activities to get involved in including social events, sports teams and lunches. This is less so now due to more home-working but there are virtual activities like video screenings and lots of groups you can join and take part in virtually such as book club, netflix club and sustainability groups. There are lots of opportunities based on everyone's different preferences.

  • 9a. Would you recommend TUI UK & Ireland to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • TUI look after their employees and do all they can to offer you as many opportunities as they can. It's a very friendly, open environment to work in even when we are gong through tough times due to the pandemic. Everyone from executive level to the Board is approachable and you feel that you can ask questions.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to TUI UK & Ireland?
  • Be yourself and give examples of how you follow the TUI Values - Trusted, Unique and Inspiring. TUI are a very flexible and open workplace so let the real you sine through in your application. Do your research and try to pull out examples that show how you meet the job description using previous work experience.
