  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Apprentice/ Client Account Manager assistant in the front office, working the same full time job as others who have already graduated uni, whilst doing degree and industry qualifications alongside. There are 4 days within the office and 1 day for studying with uni of exeter, which is a study day at home.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Am currently only 8 months into my apprenticeship however I have received my first qualification already and have developed my self- awareness, time management and other personal skills to a good level. There are constant opportunities for self- development, whether this be related to our roles and working selves or for our own development as a person outside of work, such as getting involved with the networks and hearing from interesting speakers.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really love my job and I also really love the course I'm on however I do sometimes find it difficult to manage the two together and this at times can take the enjoyment out of it a bit, however I do enjoy being busy. The company culture is great, everyone is really supportive.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program itself is very well structured and we are provided with a programme hand book to allow us to fully understand what is expected of us. Despite being delivered online due to covid it has still been really easy to learn and engage with the content. We have work mentors, academic mentors, line managers, wellbeing check ins quarterly with our designated wellbeing mentor- in all we are very well supported.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Lots of support- we consistently have people we can speak to such as our line manager, mentor, HR team, wellbeing mentor and those at uni such as the wellbeing team, our academic mentor and our course tutors. We also have an employee helpline through work which allows us to contact people for support anonymously.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We receive a good amount of support from the course provider, there is always someone on hand to speak to about issues and they get back to you fairly quickly, within 48 hours. The qualifications chosen are great and are really relevant to our roles. It is also easy to relate our qualifications and job roles to the apprenticeship standard.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My learning directly relates to my job role and I tend to find that once we have learned something it seems to come up in my daily tasks and I can understand it really well! The qualifications will surely help me have a sound foundation to having a great career in the financial services industry.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes- plenty of internal and external speakers to listen to on lunchtimes, a UBS choral society and employee networks. The head office also has a gym. Unfortunately because of covid we havent been able to experience everything in this section of work but hopefully as the world starts to open up again we will.

  • 9a. Would you recommend UBS to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • A very supportive, happy and inspiring place to have an early start to a career in financial services. The course itself is the best possible route for anyone who aspires to be a finance or banking professional, giving a great mix of work experience and traditional higher education to make us very well rounded young professionals.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to UBS?
  • Be yourself, confident and make sure you're well prepared! Have well structured answers for interviews and don't panic if you're asked a question you haven't prepared for. Just try and enjoy the process and make the most of being interviewed and getting to meet some really interesting and great people!
