  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Setting up workpapers and completing testing to decide if any differences noted are significant or not. Emailing clients if extra supporting evidence is required or not. Also can call clients if screen share is needed - difficult right now as we are currently working from home but we are soon to be back in office.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • One technical skill that has definiately improved is how to use excel. We receieved excel training and as we use excel every day, I have gained more confidence in using excel. I have also become more confident when talking to collegues and clients and am able to better express myself.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Overall, i'd say this apprenticeship is great for learning what an auditor does. You are introduced and exposed to work straight away and the tasks are relatively easy to complete. However, the hours can be long at times but that is mainly in busy season so it is expected.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • This programme has been organised wonderfully. There is a nice gap and balance between working and learning and oftentimes you are learning on the job too to aid you in your exams. There are breaks for training too which make working more manageable to avoid being too stressed when doing your work.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I get support everyday. We have a buddy, and Performance Manager and a Performance Leader. Our buddy is for asking general questions about the company and work. Our Performance Manager and Leader are there to support us and help track how much progress we have done and how to improve. We also have mentors when on clients who we can go to whenever we are stuck with the work we are doing.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We have access to BPP hub where there are steps to complete to help ensure you pass your exams. These are useful because you can track how much you already know and what areas you need to improve. There are also forums where you can ask tutors for any problems you may have and they respond very quick!

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Being with BPP has been extrememly useful! They know the types of questions AAT ask and help us understand what we need to do to prepare. They have videos and notes to help aid our revision. Also I find that the mock exams are slighlty harder than the actual exam which is great because if you can do a hard exam then the actual exam is much easier!

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Although I have only been working from home (I started Autumn 2020) there has been plenty of opportunies for extra-curricular activites! So far I have attended many social events that occur every Friday where our department comes together to just play games and unwind! We have also had Christmas quizzes and socials which have been very fun!

  • 9a. Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Not only is it one of the most prestigious accounting firms, it has a great work to social balance! We have amazing support and although we haven't had the full experience seeing as we started during a pandemic, we have had already made such great contacts. I have throughly enjoyed my first few months here.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
  • Always give your best and don't submit anything that you know you didn't put in 100%. Make sure to research interview questions so you get a feel of what they will ask.. maybe get a parent or friend to help you ask questions. Don't need to feel nervous because everyone are so friendly!
