  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Based on what department i am in will depend on what the day will entail. For example my favorite department has been the testing department where i was required to perform visual inspections of the products, along with dead tests like continuity tests and flash and insulation testing. The teams always ensure that you have something to do no matter what.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Within my time at Schneider i have acquired and improved many skills. For example at the start of my apprenticeship, i was instructed to go onto a ICT course to ensure my ICT skills were up to date and in accordance with the requirements of the company. Also i have developed many skills like being able to communicate with colleges, using phones to ring customers and my overall confidence within my work.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • As there are many departments we have to carousel in, there are obviously places that were not to my taste, however there were more places i liked rater than didn't. In terms of the education provider, we have had quite a few problems with them during the apprenticeship, however, i have made sure to sort these issues out so they do not repeat these issues with future apprentices.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • In terms of the working side, the program is very structured. Each department is told of your arrival beforehand so they can ensure that you have work to do. I found this surprising, especially during the Covid 19 pandemic i still had lots of work to do within the departments that i was in during the working at home period. In terms of college, i believe it probably would have been better if the pandemic was not around as it disturbed our learning significantly.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • During my apprenticeship i had experienced quite a few problems, mentally. There were many options that Schneider were able to give to me. There were consistent meetings, mental health first aiders on site and off-site services like Operational Health that have really helped me throughout. During the pandemic, the support only grew, there were mental health workshops, one to one support and more.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • In the first year, admittedly there were multiple problems, and the support that we received from the college was minimal, however because of the pandemic, they knew they had to support us more. Some of the tutors did not, however, the majority of the teachers have been extremely supportive throughout the second year.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • In something like Electrical Engineering, the work is a very specific area, because of this the qualification teaching is vital for me to perform better within my role. During all my departments i have been given the opportunities to show what i have learnt during college, the idea of me putting my theory work into practice will help me for when i decide where i want to work when the apprenticeship has finished.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Usually, there are many extra-curricular activities like sports, charity, social activities, along with environmental help like litter picking, however because of coronavirus, these could not take place. However, Schneider Electric have made well-being groups, social activities and things like quizzes and that online so the employees can still interact in the same they would but safely.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I believe that Schneider Electric have an array of careers within the business, from HR to panel building and testing, i feel as though the experiences they offer and the career opportunities that Schneider Electric offer are brilliant, especially to hose who care for the environment, sustainability along with the the latest technology and software.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Schneider Electric?
  • The advice i would give to an applicant is to not stress. To enter a company like this, you do not need to know everything and anything about the company, as there are new things practically every day, there are people who have worked here 20 and more who still do not know everything. The idea of applying is to learn about the place, the products and the people.
