  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis I complete tasks which entails updating our records on members to a pension scheme that my team take care of. I am learning new things everyday through training by my colleagues and self training. I am now base in the Cheltenham office and have more office duties to take care of such as printing and checking letters, filing the post and using the office cheque book for transactions.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a lot of new skills since starting in January. Some skills I have learnt are letter writing, email etiquette and how to address members/customers. These can all be applied to outside of work as well. Most skills i learnt are job specific such as learning how to use the software needed to complete calculations.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme very much. I am interested by the work that I do and am very happy with the support provided by all of the employees of the company. I am challenged to push myself to learn new things, but not too much that it is overwhelming and have help ready when it is required.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured an organised. We have been informed of exactly how the programme takes place and important dates of when certain parts of the programme will progress. The organisation is very good as there are people in the company to explain what to do and people outside the company to guide us.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive satisfactory support when working towards the qualification. I have many colleagues to talk to in the workplace about the qualification and that I can ask help from. I can also ask for help and guidance by the external growth company to help me complete the qualification and are happy to take any questions I have.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification helps me perform a lot better in my job as I am learning about how pensions work as part of the qualification. I also learn about the different calculations used to calculate different parts of the pensions or factors that affect a members pension. All of this knowledge helps me in day to day work as I know what the processes lead to.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Usually there would be extra curricular activates but unfortunately they are currently on hold due to Covid 19. There are various sports teams and sometimes teams from different offices get to meet up and play against each other. There are yearly Christmas celebrations where the whole firm is invited and brought together.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Barnett Waddingham to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Barnett Waddingham has been my best employer to date. I feel very welcomed and part of the team. Even people outside of my business area are very helpful and welcoming as I have only been here for 3 months. It is a great opportunity and a very good way to start my career in the finance sector. I hope to continue with the company and achieve highly.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barnett Waddingham?
  • Make sure you have the necessary qualifications but don't focus on them. Barnett Waddingham wants people who will be part of a team not people who are highly qualified. After you get a job at Barnett Waddingham you can progress in a lot of different ways. For example, you can get more qualifications and progress in your current role or change business sector and work on a different side of the business.
