  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As an Apprentice CSA my tasks are mostly administrative. I mainly use Outlook, AonAvenue and Acturis for my work which is all client focused on insurance renewals. Throughout the renewal process there are many stages, including internal meetings and client meetings. Other stages include the administrative work such as request for the terms from the insurers and sending out the binding instructions once cover is confirmed. Finally invoicing on Acturis plays a big part of my role.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My Outlook and Windows Office skills have improved greatly since beginning with Aon. Excel in particular, which I was very unfamiliar with at the start of my apprenticeship. Moreover, my time management and organisation has improved drastically over the last year. This is in part due to working from home during the Covid-19 pandemic and being solely accountable for my work ethic and morale.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The two week course at Lane End at the beginning of the apprenticeship was amazing. I learnt so much through the various workshops and it was great to meet the rest of the cohort. From there the transition to the office was smooth and the team I work with are all great. The social impact project was a great learning curve too. For these reasons I can say that I have thoroughly enjoyed my programme with Aon.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The organisation and structure is exceptional. It is clear a lot of time and effort goes into it and I can say that it is all worth it because of how far all of us apprentices have come. Even in spite of the global pandemic, Aon have managed to support us and I think that is something to be really proud of. I feel very proud to be a part of Aon.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My boss is incredibly supportive. She is very organised with me and is there to help and answer any questions I have no matter what. Similarly are the other people in my team. During this year and the difficulties it posed, I think I speak for the majority when I say that Aon has been a fantastic company with foresight and care for it's employees. This to me is invaluable.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My coach is very supportive. We speak monthly and she is always a delight to speak to as well as very focused. Throughout my examinations and course work she has been a great help. Her use of OneFile is efficient and helpful for me to look back on. I am very impressed with her and the coaches I have had for revision workshops. They have my interests at heart and are very knowledgeable people and this has not gone unnoticed.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The work I do for the apprenticeship is more often than not directly linked to my work. The information on the insurance industry is transferable and useful for my hopefully long career with Aon. In this sense the apprenticeship delivers knowledge that is key to know about the industry as well as day-to-day work. So yes I do feel the qualification has helped greatly with my performance.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • This has been made very difficult this year due to Covid-19. I am not part of any extra-curricular activities such as social activities or sports, however I have had a few interactions with networking groups. While working in the office there were certain excursions that were planned for the whole office and I always enjoyed these. Since Covid we have participated in a few online quizzes as an office.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Aon to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • World renowned. Biggest broker in the world following the WTW acquisition. Working with some of the best people in insurance, knowledgeable and also very down to earth and hard working people which in itself is motivating. Global company with opportunities to work abroad. Very organised and interactive programme and Aon's leadership and drive during Covid-19 is something I will never forget and can't speak highly enough of.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aon?
  • Focus when you are doing the interview videos as you only have 2 chances. Write out bullet points before you attempt it and really think about your body language and how you present yourself. This is also the case in your interview. Every moment counts so remain professional and enthusiastic. If you do not get the job stay hopeful, work on the feedback you're given and try again the following year if you can.
