  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role consists of opening and closing up the premises, serving customers and ensuring they have a wonderful experience with us. To ensure all health and safety measures are adhered to as well as money handling and cashing up. The goal of my role is to over see the day to day tasks and make sure they are done to the highest of abilities

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've definitely improved on my maths skills, its never been a strong point of mine but handling money certainly helps. My people/social skills have absolutely improved and I find myself more confident with people I don't know outside of work as well as in work. I also feel like I have improved on my hosting skills and could quite comfortably put on an event.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It's good, sometimes the endless videos can be a little tedious, but I definitely feel like I'm learning a lot. It also helps in putting a lot of things into perspective for me and opens my mind to new ways of thinking about particular situations. There is also a good sense of achievement when I go over what I've learnt with my Tutor and realise that I do know what I'm talking about.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Organisation is absolutely amazing. The constant emails and reminders are there to ensure I don't ever forget about what I'm doing or when I need to be available for calls. The structure is good, I like that it's set out almost into lessons. Having it broken down into smaller chunks helps me learn easier

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Relatively good support. I'm one of those, leave me to do it kind of people, but I know that if I need help with something, or I need him to do something for me, all I have to do is ask. He's also good at pushing me to do things.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Quite a lot. My trainer is always available if I need any help with anything and she always helps me if I get muddled up without making me feel stupid. She's super nice and she helps me feel more relaxed and confident about my learning, as well as pushing me if I'm unsure about myself.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • 100% it helps me to perform better. It's giving me the confidence to turn around and say, no do you know what, I know what I'm doing. It gives me the confidence I need to be able to delegate well and assert my authority when I feel like I need to

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have things like Bingo day and Darts teams that come in twice a week, but there isn't really anything I would say that Staff can really get involved in outside of their shift time. I feel it would be good as a bonding experience but as we never close there would always be someone left out

  • 9a. Would you recommend Marston's to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • When the Coronavirus pandemic hit, I really panicked about money and what I was going to do about work, but Marston's were in constant contact with us and made me feel protected. They offered Financial and mental health call centres so you could speak to someone if you were struggling, and even covered the Furlough pay until the government grants came through. They showed they really care about their staff

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Marston's?
  • If you want to be recognised and rewarded for your hard work, do your job to the best of your ability. But also don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it. They'd rather have people who need to be directed a little to make sure they do the best job, over someone who messes up and tries to hide it
