  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • In my role I do a lot of work with spreadsheets, maintaining and imputing data to create graphs and organising data. I also have aspects of diary management in my role by setting up meetings for colleagues. Finally, I have had a lot of work in document control.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed my skills in Microsoft office, especially Excel. I have also developed my communication skills due to the vast amount of meetings I have attended. A new skill I have began to learn is Power BI, I have only recently started training on this software.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • So far, I have really enjoyed my programme. The people I work with are amazing and are always willing to give me assistance. The company culture is also amazing as it is very people focused. The work is not quite what I expected, but not in a bad way.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Overall it has be really organised. The induction was really informative and through and the support has been great. I get enough time to complete my studies during working hours. The only criticism is that I have had a very small workload, meaning I have been fairly quiet.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support I get is amazing. My line manager is incredibly supportive and is always willing to help me with any problems I have. I have also had great support on specific tasks from other colleagues which has also been really useful. Everyone is more than happy to help.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I don't egt much support from the training provider meaning most of the work is very self taught. We only have a lesson every two weeks, which is just to run through a powerpoint. My previous knowledge of business has really been a life saver.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • There have been a few things that have been useful, but nothing I have learnt so far has been put into practice. I'm still on the knowledge section of my qualification, so when I move on the the sills section, I would except this to be more useful.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Due to working from home, I haven't yet managed to get involved in many activities but I am aware that in normal times, Ar-up is a very sociable company and holds many extra-curricular events, such as football teams, nights out and much more.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Arup to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The workload is enjoyable and interesting, the people are all willing to help and very friendly, the company culture is very focused on keeping its employees happy, there seems to be a good social side to the office and Arup are keen on personal development and internal recruitment!


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Arup?
  • Read the Key Speech and see what aligns with you and use this in your application. Be yourself and the assessment center and don't stress over the interview, they want you to feel relaxed so they can get to know you as a person.
