  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • To provide the day to day support of Solent NHS clinical applications such as SystmOne, this is also to support the 3rd party clinical applications we share with other trusts. I manage a small team of 5 in this role who I oversee to deliver the best service to our colleagues within the trust as well as other non-Solent staff members.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have recently started within this team so I have learnt a lot more knowledge about the clinical systems we use within the trust. I have built relationships with colleagues who work in various other departments as I have had to build working relationships to help me within my role and to better my understanding of the services that we are working closely with. It has built on my managerial skills managing a team of staff who are in a new role.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • My programme was due to start in 2020, but due to COVID officially started in January 2021. I have really enjoyed the programme so far and meeting my fellow classmates who all come from very different backgrounds that I do which helps more. I am however really looking forward to getting into the university.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is extremely well organised. We have emails prior with links to our Zoom/Team sessions so that our resources are available to us prior to the date. The structure these early stages has been difficult to get use to due to the fact we are having to learn so differently due to the pandemic, but our opinion matters and we are able to suggest what we would like to do with regards to the programme.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is extremely supportive. Now that my Level 6 is underway properly I am given set days a week to study, research and complete any outstanding work I have which significantly reduces the pressure when I have deadlines I need to meet. It also ensures that I can give 110% into the study and learning I am doing to do the best I possible can.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • It is still early stages as I am only 3 months in, but as stated in my previous answer my new team are extremely supportive with my qualification and they understand the importance of having protected time to complete and training that I need. I know that I can rely on my management and my staff to support me when I do need time away from the role that I am currently doing.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • As I continue to progress within my organisation, undertaking further education really compliments the progression/performance within my role. I also feel that with the varied people we have on my course it can only help me further as I will get to understand how other organisations work which are so different to mine.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Solent NHS Trust put on a lot of extra-curricular activities for all their employees, this is for employees in a variety of different roles as it again fits with Solent's inclusive stance. We do have a lot of professional networking events, we have just again for the 3rd year taken on the Virgin Pulse activity which encourages staff to get out and be active.

  • 9a. Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend working within the NHS to anyone. Staff are extremely well looked after within this organisation and you really do feel like a valued member of staff. Working throughout the recent pandemic has shown what an amazing thing the NHS is for our country. The fact that we have gotten through the worst and staff continue to remain positive and are extremely hard working just shows what a great organisation I do actually work for.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
  • I would just say be yourself when applying for a role within the NHS. You are not judge on your background or any protected characteristics everyone is given the same fair chance when applying for roles. I would also just recommend you to Solent as the opportunities you have as a staff member really are second to none.
