  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Daily tasks include sending and receiving emails, entering data into spreadsheets on excel, I also research into hard to reach areas as well as working with both the Learning and Development team and the HR team, I assist with any administration duties including emails and in the future booking training courses.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes I have learnt many new skills, such as basic administrative skills like writing emails, using excel and booking meetings. I have also completed online training courses in - Unconscious Bias,Modern Slavery, Phishing, Data Protection, Info Security Module, GDPR, Anti-Bribery & Corruption and Code of Conduct these courses have helped my understanding in these areas.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my programme, my team are extremely helpful and always willing to support me. I enjoy my tasks and find they are very informative which will help towards my level 3 business administration college course. Kier is a great place to work as everybody is really helpful and friendly.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My Programme is very well organised, my college was in contact with me the day I started which I thought was really fast! My line manager organises my tasks very well and I always have something to do, we also have regular catch ups to go over anything I may be struggling with.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive lots of support from everyone at kier, my line manger checks in with me everyday to make sure everything is going well, I also receive a lot of support from everybody within my team, I am always able to call or email anybody and I will always be supported

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Although I have not met my trainer yet, I have already had lots of contact from Sheffield College with regards to starting my training course, I have also had a meeting with Sheffield College, it was very detailed and everything was explained in detail and it gave me a good idea on how my assments would work.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • As I have not started my course, I can not fully comment, however Level 3 Business Administration will help me with my daily tasks, such as using Microsoft packages like word and excel, it will also give me knowledge on how I can progress within my role and reach my full potential.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Currently I am involved with Kier's charity walk "Moving through May" my team and I will walk 8,000 steps a day throughout may, we will also be meeting up in May so we can complete a walk together, our aim is to raise £150 as a team and £100,000 throughout Kier.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Kier Group to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Kier as they pay apprentices above the minimum wage, I have also found everybody is really friendly. I have received a lot of support from my line manager who has regular check ins to ensure everything is well, there is also lots of flexibility and opportunities to further your skills and progress.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Kier Group?
  • I would advise people applying to Kier to ask lots of questions as you will always get an answer, no question is a silly question I have always been told, also I would advise to get involved with anything you may be interested in as there are many opportunities at Kier.
