  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis we will be learning all about electrical installations and how to test electrical installations. We also learn how to build and maintain the electrical installations. Whilst also completing this we will also be doing some work for our college course that we attend one day a week.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Coming straight from school I have learned lots of new skills which are going to help me go forward in my apprenticeship. Everything I have learned will be able to be expanded to help with my future as a electrical apprentice. I have learned how to fit basic electrical installations whilst doing my apprenticeship.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my programme that I am on. I enjoy it because I have had a hands on experience unlike the opportunity that I would of got if I had attended college full time or university. This has been a really enjoyable programme for me as I enjoy the thought of being able to go further after my programme

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • This is a very well structured programme, we have a good training programme, along with some excellent support systems. there is also a task book that we have to follow in order for us to finish our apprenticeship. Everyone knows what their role is in the apprenticeship and knows what we have to do in order to complete it.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive lots of support from my employer. I receive support for not only my work duties but also if I have any issues in my personal life. My employer is very good and getting help for they employees if they need help. The managers are very helpful along with the HR team. We also get mentors to help with work duties

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We receive lots of support and help form our training provider that will help for our main goal of getting our qualifications. The instructors are willing to help wherever they can and are able to guide us into the right direction. They are all very easy to ask for help

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Since I came straight from school i had no idea what I was doing before I joined my apprenticeship. Everything i have learned from my training provider will help me to preform better in my role. All theory work we do helps go with the practical tasks that we complete

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • as an apprenticeship we are a part of the IET (Institute of electrical technology ). They will sometimes provide events for us to attend. In the apprenticeship scheme we also have a team called the 3A's they are the Aldermaston apprentice association. they will run events for us to attend and enjoy.

  • 9a. Would you recommend AWE to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend AWE to a friend because they are an amazing company to work for, they care about each and everyone of their employees. They are a welcoming company and are willing to help anyone from any walks of life. It also is better than going to college full time


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AWE?
  • Be yourself, and have an amazing time. Never be afraid to ask questions and to ask for help if you need it as they are more than willing to help you. If your struggling just ask and by the end of the day you will be ok. Also remember to keep going if times get tough
