Apprentice site manager Review

As a apprentice site manager, on a daily basis, I enforce the site rules in relation to behaviour and HS legislations. I supervise work being undertaken in my area of the site for example work being carried out in my block. I help colleagues of mine getting each level ready for client inspection due to the project being in its final stages.

Every day I can learn something new or developed my exiting skills. Commination is an important part of the job role and by talking and communicating with different people around the site regarding work and person life, you can build relationships with each other. Construction can be know to have pressure put onto you, to cope wit this, it is fatal I have kept a cool head under pressure ensuring the required outcome is achieved.

I really do enjoy the programme as it is the best way to learn, being on site everyday with more experienced managers who can teach you a lot. Having the block release for the first week of every month really helps me complete my college level 4 HNC/ NVQ work.

I feel the programme is organised well throughout the apprenticeship in relation to work and college life balance ensuring I am doing well. I feel there may need to be more transparency from the company in relation to the next steps after these first 2 years, the obvious steps would be the Level 6 Degree which I will choose to do and this has been shown to me and I appreciate the help in relation to this. However there is very little discussion regarding your progress in relation to my job title and I feel this is an area for improvement to ensure the employee is not left wondering what happens next.

I receive a lot of support from my colleagues and employer, there is always someone I can talk to such as my line manager who can help me with any questions I have. I get the sense I am cared for at SISK and looked after well. It is in the best interest for myself and the company for me to succeed so I can progress in my role, and this is the sense I receive and is why I want to do well.

In relation to my college where I am completing my Level 4 HNC/ NVQ, I receive the needed support I need to complete the work set. If I have questions I can ask them during the block release and emails, although it can take time for some of the tutors to respond back. With recent tutors leaving the college, this means more work load has been left on the tutors who have stayed and this can reflect in the time they have to teach us and help us with questions regarding my NVQ.

The qualifications I am working towards are the level 4 NVQ and HNC. These both relate to my daily tasks on site and therefore help me to improve in my role and expand my knowledge. The tutors have a lot of experience which means they ca use their own examples to help me understand the questions, etc. The qualification sets the foundations for the next steps such as the level 6 degree.

When I first joined, there was a local five a side football game that happens every week however the clients of this closed team down and have know removed them. Due to COVID 19 and therefore lockdown, meeting up outside of work is challenging and therefore over the last year has not happened.

I would recommend SISK to a friend as they will look after you when taking your first steps into the construction industry. They provide the needed skills and training to hep you developed your skills and knowledge in your job role. They care for you and want to see you succeed.

I would suggest that you make clear of your knowledge you already have of construction. This can be through previous qualifications or work experience (very key). Make it clear where you have shown the qualities of the role you are applying for in past scenarios which does not have to be work related. It is very important to be confident and stand out from the crowd.
