  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a an apprentice business administrator I work in different placements around the business, which allows me to learn about the different processes and procedures involved. It is a great way to understand more about AWE and meet lots of new people. On a day to day basis I will spend some time in the office training and working on projects, but I also spend time at home working on assignments and having team meetings.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have improved nearly all my skills, including but not limited to; teamwork, leadership, presentation, communication and technological skills. We have so many opportunities to improve our skills, as there is always a course that we can take up or learning new skills in the different placements. There is a great team of business admin apprentices, which makes learning new skills easier and a good way to make friends.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my apprenticeship greatly, because of the people. Everyone is friendly and my team of business admin apprentices are so fun to work with. There is always something to get involved with and new skills to undertake. Unfortunately due to the pandemic I hadn't been in placements as much as I would have liked, but my line manager has been great at trying to get us involved with other projects and improving our skills.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The majority of the time everything is organised, as there are usually rotas, but due to the pandemic I think things have been less organised. However, over time this has improved. I now know what I'm doing and where I'm supposed to be. The apprenticeship programmes themselves are very structured, as there is so many apprentices we have our own area.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I always have support from my line manager, however I would have liked to be given a 'buddy'. It would have helped me to settle in and work my way round the business. In general I feel that I can always go to my manager for any problems; most people at AWE are approachable.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Most of the training is done at AWE, so there is no need to get involved with the Pearson's college. We work on online courses provided by Pearson's, which ultimately helps us to pass our end point assessment. AWE as a company provide any training support that we might need, including extra courses from other companies.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Yes, I would say that all courses I do via Pearson's helps me to learn more about my job and business in general. There are lots of assignments involved, so this is helpful to write down everything iv learnt and then practice this in the office. I do feel that towards the end of my apprenticeship I will be in contact with Pearson's more, as I will need to be working towards my end point assessment.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I believe that there are, but I haven't managed to get involved mainly due to the pandemic. Instead, I have recently applied for the opportunity to join with other apprentices on a board to help bring new ideas into the business. We will work with executives and others to implement new strategies and processes that will improve efficiencies.

  • 9a. Would you recommend AWE to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I have had a really good experience at AWE, I believe the people make AWE a great place to work. I have a great team around me which support me and provide me with the resources I need. AWE care about your wellbeing and mental health and there are always exciting opportunities to get involved with.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AWE?
  • I would say do your research into the company, so that you can see if your values and skills align with the AWE. I would also say its important to be enthusiastic, as this will help you to meet people at different stages of the application or apprenticeship. Ensure that you are certain on apprenticeships being the route you would like to take, as there is lots of work involved.
