  • My day to day role includes: - Attending meetings both internally and externally. - Drafting legal warning letters and cautions. - Attending Court. - Reviewing Legal Files. - Drafting Witness Statements. - Arrangement Payment for Invoices. - Cost Recovery Work. - Maintaining Legal Records. - Attending enforcement panels and giving an update. - Assisting in preparations for prosecutions.

  • I have learnt a range of new skills and developed exisiting skills, such as: - Working towards my LLB in Law. - Legal drafting and writing. - Self confidence and speaking up in meetings. - Teamwork. - Communication. - Problem Solving. - Self Management. - Resilience. - Organisation. - Commercial Awareness. - Professionalism. - Computer Skills. - Time Management - Analytical Skills

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have been at Severn Trent for around 18 months now and it's been a genuinely enjoyable experience. I work in a legal team of around 12, all of which are incredibly supportive and friendly.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • We had a two week induction at Severn Trent before we started our role, this was great to ease us into being part of the company. I have a designated study day, to ensure I get the necessary time to do my University Work.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have a weekly catch up with my manager to talk about work, university and anything I have going on generally. This was twice a week throughout the pandemic. I have also worked closely with the HR Team in regard to diversity and inclusion, who have also been supportive.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have a tutor assigned to me for each unit, who I can pose any questions to. We have regular drop in sessions and a tutor who oversees the programme, who I can raise any issues with.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Most of the topics I learn at University, I can apply in my role at Severn Trent. I also attend a summer school at the University every year where we learn 'legal skills', such as legal drafting, which I use in my role day to day.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Over the pandemic, Severn Trent launched the 'Share a Smile campaign'. This was series of events such as Bingo and a Quiz Night to get the company together. Severn Trent also offer volunteering days, such as litter picking to give back to the community.

  • Yes

  • It's been a great experience so far, I enjoy the work I do and continue to grow my skill set and knowledge day by day. I work in a great team, who support me and I can learn a lot from.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Severn Trent?
  • Severn Trent are very individual focused, ensure your application doesn't just show your academic achievements but show cases your personality. Things such as caring for a family member, are just as impressive as volunteer work. Personalise your application to show the real you!
