  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Produce daily financial reports to key stakeholders in the business, manage a number of different excel trackers, post journal entries, produce PowerPoints showcasing financial information and assist the team in the month-end forecasting process.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Alongside my work, I'm currently studying AAT L3. I have learnt about preparing various financial statements, double-entry bookkeeping, budgeting, indirect tax, etc. Work has allowed me to put what I have learnt from my studies into practice.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The apprenticeship has been very enjoyable, even despite having to work from home for most of it. The moment that stands out the most was the chance to go to Poland in 2019, after recently starting, to meet the rest of the finance team within the company.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Me and the other finance apprentice were the first finance apprentices within the company. We started studying for AAT L3 straight after starting, and we used the training provider Babington. Since starting, new programs have come into place to help the early careers people at HPE.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The finance team have always been very supportive. They have made me feel comfortable in asking them for help and I have a 1-1 meeting with my manager every 2 weeks to talk over my current responsible and new opportunists for me. You are also given a mentor from outside your team and a work buddy when you join.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Babington will provide you with; studying books for each unit, weekly online lectures and a tutor who you can go to for help. My tutor has changed 3-4 times since I started which has made it slightly more difficult.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Many of the units I study in AAT L3 link with the work I do at HPE. One example is posting journal entries, which I started to undertake at work a couple of weeks after I had learnt it in my studies.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • The early careers team at HPE provide loads of opportunities for you to get involved in and meet other people within HPE. Even throughout remote working, there has been a number of different social zoom meetings.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Hewlett Packard Enterprise to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • There are many of other early careers people at HPE, which helps you out as you don't feel isolated being the only one. You are also provided with a number of opportunities to get involved in loads of different programs to help your personal development.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Hewlett Packard Enterprise?
  • Within your CV and during the interview, talk about skills and qualities you have picked up from previous jobs, during school, sports teams, etc. and how you can translate these into the job you are applying to.
