  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is to answer incoming calls from customers. The calls can vary, I get renewals, cancellations, mid term amendments and quote calls. I also get complaints that we need to log on a system called cms.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Communication skills. Listening skills. Studying for my foundation insurance exam. Dealing with complaints.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy it. It’s something I have never done before and I learn something new everyday. The support is amazing too, if I need help I feel like I can ask anyone and they will help me.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It’s really good. If I need help I know who to ask and they will get back to me as soon as they can.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • A lot of support. Most of the time I know the answers that customers query. If I do get stuck on anything I either ask one of my team members or my team leader and they help me as best as they can.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • A lot of support. We have a catchup every month to see how it’s going and if I need any help I can always ask.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It helps me improve a lot. Most of the job is in my foundation qualification book so the more I read and learn about that, the better and easier the job is to do on a day to day basis.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We have a team day out where we raise money for charity. We have team meetings every week so we can all have a catch up.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Direct Line to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a good place to work. Great salary. There are good benefits too for example, free shares, bonuses, pension, pay as you earn scheme, apprentice study time.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Direct Line?
  • Just go for it. It’s something different, it might not be for everyone but it’s worth a try and you might really enjoy it. Be prepared to work hard and then you’ll get the amazing rewards that come to you afterwards.
