  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am an apprentice cloud engineer working with the machine instance team. The majority of my work has been project based as I am an avid programmer, however I am also working to become AWS certified.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, as well as my job role, we are encouraged to use internal an external learning tools to expand our knowledge and improve our mindsets

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Very much - It's the best decision I ever made, as is setting me up for a great career in one of the fastest growing areas of the bank, I couldn't have made a better choice for myself.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very - We have set goals for our apprenticeship that involve everything from learning to working with groups to creating items that are useful for our business area. We are aware of what we need to do to succeed and encourage to strive for it.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Very much - Initially we had a very structured learning program while we settled in, and now we have monthly cohort meetings as well as regular 121's with our managers and the apprenticeship team. I've felt pretty settled, but those that don't have a range of support.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Very much - As well as the standard support of assistance from manager, apprenticeship team and skills coach, most managers are open to giving you time whenever you need it as to not add additional stress to yourself. Everyone is supportive, open, and amazing.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I hope to be a cloud engineer/developer, and the programming pathway of my course will teach me not just the languages, but techniques I will need to succeed in this.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Obviousily because of covid this is pretty limited, but most business areas have some sort of virtual social, as well as networks you can get involved in. Pre-covid there was a group for pretty much every hobby you can imagine, and funding available to create new ones.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It's an amazing and reward work environment, perfect for the new starter with managers that volunteer to train you, so you're always wanted where you end up going.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • Do it, do it well, do it fast, wear a smart shirt.
