  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Carrying out maintenance on a daily basis, to keep the chemical production plants on site running. Working on a wide range of equipment such as pumps, gearboxes, valves, motors and other company specific equipment.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Learned many new practical skills for the maintenance of mechanical equipment such as overhauling pumps and the setting of mechanical seals, laser aligning equipment, lifting and slinging, MEWP license, scaffolding training. As well as other skills such as teamwork, independent work.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have enjoyed the programme a lot, I have made a lot of new friends and learned many new skills. Coming straight from school I have gained a lot of confidence and have learned a lot about how life works and the world of work.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure of the programme was well organised, I had clear milestones and deadlines to meet for the qualifications that I was carrying out. I also had a lot of support from people at work when I needed help with work for my apprenticeship.

  • Throughout my apprenticeship I have received a lot of support from my employer, I felt like I could go to anyone that I work with and ask for help if I ever needed it.

  • The training provider I was with provided enough support to help me when I was working towards my qualifications.

  • Some of the things that I have learned through completing my qualifications have helped me perform better in my role.

  • There are social events and apprentice networking events to get involved with.

  • Be confident, talk to everyone, make new friends, do extra-curricular activities, work hard.
