  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am currently a year 2 mechanic apprentice for the Babcock land sector based at Bovington working on military tracked vehicles, my daily role changes in many ways as the job requires a wide variety of skills and elements to meet the contract requirements. one day I could be on the main building line assembling the vehicle to meet deadlines to other days working on the power pack section repairing and diagnosing engines preparing to be collected by the military.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Babcock to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The job is very good and helps you gain knowledge in and out of the workplace. Babcock management are very good at what they do and support you with any issues you have with the training course. If you have any issues with the job you can approach management very easily and explain the issues your facing and they will do there best to help solve these issues. You make great friends and build good relationships with other workers as you are part of a unique skilled team striving to meet deadlines.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Babcock?
  • Be confident and honest. I was honest in my job interview and explained I had very minimal mechanical experience but my interviewer's could see I was very keen to learn and was interested in the job. The job requires a practical skills assessment interview where you will be asked to demonstrate certain skills during the interview this could range from identifying certain materials to doing a wire diagram and you will be assessed and supported through the whole thing.
