  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The entire degree is new to me, I had no Computer Science experience before this apprenticeship. So far I have learnt python and sql as well as bloomberg's own language. I have bettered my communication skills and quality skills, and learnt a lot about the financial markets and how we interact with them.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I actually really enjoy work, as much as sometimes is can be very hard it fun and the people I work with are great too. THe company culture is good, we are mostly monitored on output but I think this is a good way of monitoring how much people are working.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well. From the university side and from the work side. Everything is organised and we always know what we should be doing. We have one study day a week, we all have a mentor, we had loads of training, regular meetings with our manager and great company support all round.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • A lot. I have had personal issues going on for a few months and Bloomberg have been so supportive. HR are also really easy to reach on the terminal. We also have so many people we can reach out to about different problems, or even if we just need a chat.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I'd say we do receive slightly less support from uni. We have a mentor who is amazing and shes always there to support us, but i have found that some of the lecturers can be a bit smug. Sometimes dismissing you if you ask for help, or being generally demotivating.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification teaches me the text book stuff I need to know for work. EG python, sql, databases etc. It means I can transfer the skills I learn at uni into work and add context. As well as this it backs up the things I learn at work and consolidates them.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Due the coronavirus we are limited to what we can do, but we have still have talks and socials we attend online. When back in office we have been told there are lots of different social activites, sports teams, and networking events we can be a part of. As well as apprenticeship talks.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Bloomberg to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • This isnt my first apprenticeship, but by far the best. We are well supported, constantly learning, always busy and on top of all we are well paid. I love my job, and can't wait to be in the office and properly meet everyone. And the work ethic is just great.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Bloomberg?
  • Be yourself, dont pretend to be someone you're not. I didnt know anything about computer science and I was honest about this. Also, do as much research as possible as they will through in unexpected questions here and there. Lastly, you dont need to be the smartest kid to get the job, you just need to show them you have a thirst to learn.
