  • Role Responsibilities: Survey/Planning & design of networks using existing Virgin Media Network; Responsible for conducting detailed Fibre Optic Network Mapping to meet Design Specifications for Fibre Builds. Produce planning packs containing information of both civils and cabling Planning and coordinating changes to the network to ensure that expansion work is conducted in accordance with the design methodology Delivering planning support to set targets Liaising with internal and external teams and other third parties

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am currently in the process of developing further my existing skills such as: multitasking, problem-solving, planning as well as organising and prioritising. I am also learning some new skills, i.e. how to design and draw the fibre optic network; collaboration with internal departments and stakeholders; strategic planning; site surveys etc.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I would like to say that I enjoy the programme quite a lot. The dedicated mentor from VM side and dedicated coach from the BPP side are supporting me all the way through the apprenticeship and the whole learning process. My colleagues are very knowledgeable and are always there in case I need an advice or support.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I would say that the programme is organised quite well, you have a dedicated mentor who is guiding you through the network planning aspects and the process. There is also a coach from qualification provider side, who is supporting you with the learning course and gives feedback on the submitted portfolios as well as grades them.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • All of the support you can possibly imagine. My mentor is highly skilled and extremely knowledgeable so whenever I am in doubt, I can always ask him for advice, or to explain one thing or another. There are also the rest of the colleagues who can guide me through certain processes. Speaking generally, I think we have a great team.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I would say that the coach is there for you at all times. If I would need a second opinion or wasn`t sure how to answer a question or two, I could easily schedule in a meeting with him and talk about it, or ping a quick email. Everyone in BPP are there for you to help you develop further and achieve the qualification.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I would say that it is very important to obtain the qualification. As we go through the modules we cover a lot of important aspects such as : stakeholders, scheduling, resource management, project lifecycle, quality, change management and etc, that are essential for the organisation everyday life. It helps to paint the bigger picture as well as understand how the organisation is being run and how I can apply learned things to my day to day job role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is a dedicated team - future careers committee who is responsible for the social activities such as social calls, games, meetings, networking etc. Also, the company is encouraging people to be active and keep up the mental wellbeing by giving the access to certain apps that help to unwind and destress.

  • Yes
