  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a Duty Manager, I am responsible for guest and team safety, guests satisfaction with experience, team engagement. Time to time needing to deal with crisis such as power cuts, first aid to team and guests. Taking care of some financial aspects and compliance. Organising team rotas to meet guests needs and ensure their have enough rest between shifts.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • During Whitbread career, I have learnt new skills and behaviours. By showing good amount of curiosity I have learnt new operational procedures such as understanding P&L, new compliances, creating projects and speaking in public. I have better understanding how each aspect and area is related and how important is to make sure they are all looked after.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The apprenticeship programme gave me new opportunities to meet a whole bunch of interinsting people, I have discovered some new interest not only as a hobby, but also how can I relate my knowledge to my role on day to day basis. The programme it self is great, some of the topics more challenging, but worth every single minute spent on it.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very well structured. I was given a weekly plan and timeline by when each topic has to be completed. I have regular meetings with regional training, who is a great help to keep me on track, always approachable and supporting with any constructive feedback. Even during pandemic, my course was not affected in any way

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I always get a support from my Deputy Hotel Manager, who is currently completed her apprenticeship too. My othe Deputy Hotel Manager always over look work which I done and give me constructive feedback and encouraging when I learn new skill. My Hotel manager is always on hand to explain other business and how can I change my ways of working

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My current regional trainer is super approachable, well organised, knowledgeable and encouraging. I know that between pur sessions I can arrange a quick meeting and go through questions and answers. He always explains me well, what will be expectations from a next visit and towards of my end of point assessment

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Learning new management styles and exploring behaviours helps me to deal with challanging situations, management changes and have more interaction with guests to seek for a feedback and provide relevant team with findings to improve future guests experience. Having good basis, I know that moving into my new role, I won't have surprises and will know how to overcome challenges

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Whitbread has a great selection of activities, especially supporting local councils, colleges and Great Ormond Street hospital. Charity events and money collections always goes to GOSH and clean up local area helps teams to come closer in organising events, involves local counsils and public. Another great way to socialise is to get involved with local colleges to interact with student by sharing your knoweledge and day to day routine in the hotel.

  • Yes

  • Great place to start your carreer if you want to achieve more. Great company in supporting your development and opening up new experiences and opportunities. Great induction programme for new starters, learning and development plans through your journey. Easy to reach work places as all sites are easily reached by public transport. Good progresive pay rates and always on hand managers


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Whitbread?
  • You have to be willing to learn new things, open and approachable. Knowing how to take feedback on board and show curiosity. Work well with colleagues towards set targets and achieve personal goals. Put guests in hearts and provide world class service to be the most loved hotel brand in the world.
