  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Testing and building customer products within the Rochester service centre. This includes reworking faulty units and preforming procedural tests on customer products.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • i have been trained in J-STD and IPC610. I have learnt how to use a range of company software. I have developed in my communication and technical skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have gained a lot of experience being trained on the job. There are many different opportunities to help improve my technical skills and Knowledge. I have enjoyed the BAE Systems Apprenticeship.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • the programme has set goals that need to be met yearly. The first year of the apprenticeship is developing knowledge and skills at college. then the 2nd year is to help get on the job experience, the final year is to experience a full year in a specific department.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • monthly catch up calls are held to find out if everything is going well. I am able to contact the necessary people if I am struggling with anything. There are support groups that employees have access to. for example, mental health, finance.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider offers many different types of support to allow me to work towards my BTEC qualification. such as emailing or calling for advice. Grading sheets and guidance sheets are provided when trying to reach specific criteria.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • the basic foundation knowledge provided has helped me understand how specific operations and techniques are used whilst on site. they have also help me develop technical skills and knowledge, which has helped me understand the principles of engineering.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • clubs: golf club, football club, book club. there are team building activity days and they offer a week of developing communication skills off site. there is an awards ceremony offered once the apprenctiship has finished allowing us to meet new people.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • BAE Systems has allowed me to develop as an individual and as a team member. the apprenticeship has allowed me to get real world experience on the workings of an engineering company. This has allowed me to gain invaluable knowledge.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • it is a worth while experience, the knowledge and relationships gained is a great way to help start of a career.
