  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role as a journalism apprentice means a 9-5 shift finding and creating original stories for a range of platforms. I search for stories on social media, send these to colleagues for their shows and make my own original content in the form of social media videos and packages for radio and tv.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to edit on a range of software and research and find stories. My daily communications with colleagues have improved my team working skills and I am a much more confident person thanks to my lovely team at Oxford and my apprenticeship bosses.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love every minute of it. I knew I had to do this. I couldn't go to uni. The idea of studying for years without any opportunity for practical application and the chance to make a real difference was terrifying to me. This is what I'm meant to do, and I love it.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is fabulous, so well thought out. Even the pandemic has not thrown a spanner in the works of either my progress of my hopes for the future.

    10/10

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive all the support I could want. Everyone is so kind and helpful but they don't crowd me, and just allow me to do my thing.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Plenty. They were brilliant and again, even the pandemic did not stop their constant and helpful communications.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It is so useful. Without the media law knowledge I have, most of the stories I cover simply wouldn't be possible.

    10/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Normally yes, but with the pandemic these have been somewhat curtailed. I am still on a number of staff networks however and work doing outreach for the BBC so that's something I really enjoy.

    10/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a fabulous employer! Mental health understanding, support from all angles, clear career progression, the chance to make a real difference to people's lives, a friendly work environment, the list goes on.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
  • Be yourself. They don't want a 'BBC person' they want a personality.
