My role as a journalism apprentice means a 9-5 shift finding and creating original stories for a range of platforms. I search for stories on social media, send these to colleagues for their shows and make my own original content in the form of social media videos and packages for radio and tv.
I have learnt how to edit on a range of software and research and find stories. My daily communications with colleagues have improved my team working skills and I am a much more confident person thanks to my lovely team at Oxford and my apprenticeship bosses.
I love every minute of it. I knew I had to do this. I couldn't go to uni. The idea of studying for years without any opportunity for practical application and the chance to make a real difference was terrifying to me. This is what I'm meant to do, and I love it.
It is fabulous, so well thought out. Even the pandemic has not thrown a spanner in the works of either my progress of my hopes for the future.
I receive all the support I could want. Everyone is so kind and helpful but they don't crowd me, and just allow me to do my thing.
Plenty. They were brilliant and again, even the pandemic did not stop their constant and helpful communications.
It is so useful. Without the media law knowledge I have, most of the stories I cover simply wouldn't be possible.
Normally yes, but with the pandemic these have been somewhat curtailed. I am still on a number of staff networks however and work doing outreach for the BBC so that's something I really enjoy.
Yes
It is a fabulous employer! Mental health understanding, support from all angles, clear career progression, the chance to make a real difference to people's lives, a friendly work environment, the list goes on.
Be yourself. They don't want a 'BBC person' they want a personality.
